I'm a healer and know exactly what you're talking about. But as much of a power gamer as I am and no matter how much games are a part of my life, they're not the major focus when something else calls. Any guild who gives you sh*t because you put real life first may want to re-think their priorities. Unexpected things happen and need to be dealt with, now if you were someone who left the middle of every. single. raid. because it was dinner time, then there'd be an issue. Otherwise, they'll get over it!

Can't cut the phone lines, lag is horrible on wireless.
Real life generally should come first - even if it's only taking 10 seconds out to pick up, ask if you can call them back, and get back to doing what you need to. Generally, as anything but a healer, you can faceroll in those 10 seconds without much thought while you're responding to your real life emergency. As DPS you've got little or no excuse.
If real life interrupts while you're in the middle of something that actually takes conscious effort, then you should be able to judge if real life can wait 15-30 seconds until that segment of the fight is over, or you should have pre-booked in advance with your parents / girlfriend / boyfriend / life generally that you'd be busy running Ulduar 25 between this time and that time.
Keep your phone by your side so that you can answer it without running away from your keyboard and can keep mashing '1-2-3-4' while you're on the phone. I've DPS'd instances while on the phone, and I used to play Starcraft against my two brothers in a 2-on-1 melee while chatting to a friend, so it's not that difficult to multi-task. Just try to arrange your raiding times so that you don't need to actually leave your computer for anything that's not an emergency.

It's normal to have things happen, if it causes a raid then it's just bad luck. There's no reason to get hung up over it as indeed IRL does have priority. Still, it's better to say "got to AFK, sorry" rather than just leave and come back 10 minutes after the wipe and everyone wondering where you went.
However, if it happens too often then there's also a sign of bad organisation or communication somewhere. I hope your 3 examples were separated by enough time, because if one of my raiders did this to me 3 times in 1-2 weeks i'd get irritated too. It's one thing to say IRL comes first, but if you commit to raiding with 9-24 other people you also have to organize yourself so that you don't fail them to often.
As said, sometimes it's just bad luck and several things coming up at the same period, but there are also a number of things you can organize better. No idea is this is applicable in your case or not but i think it's important to mention as i've seen too many raiders say 1h before the raid "oh, a friend came and we'll go watch a movie, bye".

It was 10:00 when we started doing freya, right when we started my door bell rang, and i knew if i went to get it i would mess up, making the raid fail. I first wait a few seconds, and the bell rings over and over, and someones now knocking pn the door.
Mom and Dad forgot their keys? o_O
Once I was on a demolisher for flame leviathen, and my phone starter ringing over and over again, thinking of it as an emergency I ran to pick it up...
For this one, I suggest cell phone, perhaps? Speakerphone is a godsend for me anyway.
Before posting this I was doing XT on ulduar 25 and some guests came to my house....
For this one, I'm sure a "Hey man, just in the middle of somethin, gimmie a couple minutes!" woulda been suffice. Before my sister/best friend got into WoW, this happened often. That always pacified them.
Like someone else mentioned before me, a "hey, afk a sec guys" is
always
the best way to keep guildies/raid members happy and in the know of where you are and what's up.
What do you do in situations like these? Has something like this ever happened to you when you let go of your responsibility in a raid for something else? I can just imagine being a tank or a healer and having to go open to door, pick up the phone and etc..
I guess being a DPS class (mainly) on all my raiding toons makes this a hard question to answer. Also, I'm sure the fact that I don't have to worry about people calling on me as I'm usually nocturnal and if someone came knocking on my door at 3:00 AM they've got another thing coming. :P

real life >>> WoW. Always. If your guild doesn't understand this, quit them because they are retarded.
