Getting things that aren't plate opens up the possibility of getting wasted stats like
Hit
and
Spirit
. (In the future mp5 won't be shunned, but until patch 3.2 comes around, it's still less important.)
Know what stats you're aiming for and it's completely fine! Just because it has
SP
+
Intellect
doesn't mean you should instantly bid/roll/argue so that you can have it. When I roll for mail pieces, I take a lot of time to make sure it's not needed by anyone that can't get anything better.
This is a list of items I'd halfway consider worth going for that are not plate if other raid/party members weren't going to take.
Mail
,
Leather
, and
Cloth
caster gear without Spirit or Hit
I don't like seeing Healy Paladins with Spirit and Hit gear. I also don't like seeing paladins with offhands instead of shields. But it's all about the stats! And sometimes, that gear looks better too. :[

I used the Azure Cloth Bindings for the longest time before 3.1 came out. In pve, for us healers, armor is nothing more than a little meaningless number.

I would say that any piece with Hit Rating -- even if it has more Spellpower or Intellect -- isn't something you should roll on. Personally, I'd LOL at any healer with any Hit Rating. You don't see Holy / Disc Priests rolling on Hit Gear (in fact, they'd get LOL'd at if they did); why do Paladins get the excuse to?
Holy Pallies don't have "little options" for their gear. They can wear everything Cloth to Plate; grabbing a cloth piece with Hit Rating means that, out of all those pieces, you picked up one that's not itemized for ANY healer, but a DPS. Contrary to popular belief, heals
CANNOT
miss.
XD
But that's just my perspective. At the same time -- if there's NO one else that wants the piece, and no one cares for Shards... I'd say you might as well, as at least a small upgrade is still a small upgrade. But my advice -- replace it as soon as possible. :P
Perty much any healing epics are better then any healing blues, even if they have spirit or hit.
...healing gear does NOT have Hit on it. You're mistaking that for DPS gear. :P Just because it's cloth doesn't mean it's healing gear.

You forgot to quote the smiley face on the end of what I said:
Contrary to popular belief, heals CANNOT miss.
XD
It was even in bold. I'm not sure how you missed it.
:P
On most servers I've played on, it's a common LOL in /Trade to say that heals can miss, and they also are incapable of crits. It was supposed to be LOLable... but apparently, LOLs can miss. (c wut i did thar? :D )
And yes, that may be narrow-minded, but it's just like I'd /facepalm if an Elemental Shaman took a piece of Enhancement Shaman gear -- it's not itemized for them, and really makes no sense to have it. But, I also mentioned... if no one has a problem with it, and it's an upgrade, then they should get it. I DID say that, didn't I? But I also pointed out that it's the first piece they should try to replace, as well, because, in my example, an Ele Shaman will get far more use out of extra Spellpower than AP. Same with a Holy Pally with Hit.
And also, like I said:
Holy Pallies don't have "little options" for their gear. They can wear everything Cloth to Plate
I recognize the fact that it's COMPLETELY OKAY for a Paladin to wear anything at all. In fact, my little welfare Holy set includes several cloth pieces.
This doesn't change the fact that I'd /facepalm at any healer with Hit Rating.
ANY
healer, not just Holy Paladins. And my point was that, Holy Paladins can wear the widest variety of gear -- there
shouldn't be a need
for them to wear anything with Hit Rating, when they have four different classes of armor to choose from.
So, to summarize what I've said:
if there's NO one else that wants the piece, and no one cares for Shards... I'd say you might as well, as at least a small upgrade is still a small upgrade. But my advice -- replace it as soon as possible. :P
There is nothing wrong with wearing cloth/leather/mail if your a paladin. If theres stats you dont need the obvs try and replace asap but for the meantime its the best you can have.
...sounds about the same, doesn't it? :D

Agreed matey, it just sounded from the way you was saying it that you was mocking a little people that wear gear that isnt a 100% itemised for the class in question =)
and i've never herd the healing can miss thing O.o but shall keep an eye out for it :P
I really didn't mean it like that, and yeah, I read my first post again and my first paragraph was quite a kick in the teeth. My bad. XD
And yeah... it went so far that when my buddy did a character re-customization on his Paladin, he renamed her "Healsdntcrit." It's a huge thing on the servers I'm on... just say "Heals can't crit" in Trade, and watch the sparks fly. XD
/2
Holy Specialization
is a typo. It was meant to say, "Your heals are 5% MOAR AWESOMER."
And of course with heals not critting, people mention that, however, heals CAN miss, and you should stack Hit Rating to negate this. Oh, and make sure you watch when you cast buffs -- they CAN crit, and it's better to recast til you get the crit.

Synectics, I can totally see you trolling random players in trade chat.
I definitely have my days.
And just so you know, I'm never going to give you up, never going to let you down, nerver going to run around and desert you.
You know the rules, and so do I
