I'm also surprised that the Narnia series hasn't been mentioned yet.
I also like pretty much every book that Michael Crichton wrote. He blends fantasy and reality into a believable possibility of something that could happen.
I have read 4 of Dan Brown's books (not sure if he has more), and found that all of them, while interesting on their own, share the same basic premise. I won't give it away to those that might want to read his books, but those that have I'm sure have noticed it.
Let's see if I can remember all the authors I've read...
Fantasy: J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter), J.R.R. Tolkien (Hobbit, Silmarillion, LotR), Katherine Kerr (Deverry), Melanie Rawn (Dragon Prince), Terry Goodkind (Sword of Truth), Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time),
C.S. Lewis (Narnia)
Sci-fi: Peter F. Hamilton (The Night's Dawn), C.J. Cherryh (The Chanur Chronicles), Larry Niven (The Known Universe)
Historical fiction (I use 'historical' lightly): Harry Turtledove (The Darkness)
Realistic fiction: Michael Crichton (Next), Jeffrey Archer (Sons of Fortune), Tom Clancy (Jack Ryan)
I know there are more that I've read. I would add the books in the Star Wars extended universe, which I've read a good few of (read: more than you have, likely).
Note that most of these books are not for the faint of heart...
Forgot about Brown myself, actually.

I'm definitely going to check that one out! Thanks!
No problem. :)

I would recommend it.Fix'd.
When I first read the series of books, I was enchanted and hooked. :')
I read them again and still found them enjoyable to read. Books which have done that are very rare to me, and Tolkien couldn't do it for me, although he's a great writer.
Edit: I also found Martina Cole's books quite enjoyable. There are LOADS, and most are related to crimes etc. :)

<.<
To be quite honest, I dislike both of them. I found LotR too long-winded and Narnia too "The lion is God, believe in him and all will be well!"-kinda.
*edit*
Now, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! Now
there's
quality!

LotR is too long winded for me too. ;)
But...I do like Narnia. :'(
STOP CRUSHING MY CHILDHOOD! :@
Also, Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy sucks to me. :P

LotR . . . is . . . long . . . winded? Obviously you've never read Robert Jordan . . .
And there's nothing long with being long winded! It helps provided detail! You young whippersnappers these days! Craving your action and too impatient to read anything longer than a Tweet!

See, different tastes. HHGTTG is just the right type of humour for me, and I've read it from one and to another 4-5 times already since I bought the book three years ago.

I've read Wheel of Time many times, and it's quite interesting even if I'm terribly bored at around books 5-6 orso.
Also, I've been reading books steadily since I was around 10 orso, so it's not like I can't read thick books. I just found LotR too dull and boring.

^^
I liked reading them the first time I read them, at the age of 9. I have been told I am precocious. (spelling?)
But then I tried re-reading them, and hated it. Maybe it's because since reading Lord of the Flies' long-winded-ness has made me want to slash my wrists when they spend more than 3 lines describing the angle of the clouds.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, (Sorry, my computer takes too long to load all the pages.) but R.A. Salvatore's books in the Forgotten Realms setting are good.
Icewind Dale Trilogy, Dark Elf Trilogy, the Cleric Quintet, Legacy of the Drow, Paths of Darkness, the Sellswords, the Hunter's Blades Trilogy, Transitions, and the trilogy he is writing with his son, Geno, which is titled the Stone of Tymora.
30 of them, including the Stone of Tymora Trilogy.

Mind giving me an author name or must I actually google it and look for more than .5 seconds?
