I got this guy to help with a couple of old content raid bosses. Based on what I had read I thought he would hold aggro but so far that has not been the case. I am only doing dots for my first 3-4 attacks but I am still grabbing aggro within a short time. My toon is a Balance Druid i level 499 and my weapon is only a 476 crafted staff. Am I doing something wrong ?

Certain bosses are immune to taunt, could it be that? As a druid, you can try it yourself with
Growl
.

Yes...You are trying to use a spawned creature from an item to hold aggro for you. Seeing how every old raid boss up until about LK content was solo-able at 85, you should just be blowing through them at 90 with a 499ilvl.

Unless you have great self-healing, the stacking debuff will eventually kill you. That fight was actually the reason I got that trinket on my warrior,
Second Wind
didn't cut it.

You mean like a Balance Druid? (Since that is what the OP is?)
And I solo the old stuff every week on multiple toons for the pets/gold/patterns/etc.
Mage, Warlock, Rogue, Paladin, Shaman, Hunter, and soon a Warrior.

I wanted to keep it a bit more general :P still, even a hybrid class might struggle on certain BC (and definitely some 25man WotLK) encounters due to lack of gear.

It taunts, but won't "hold" aggro like a tank, so it's used if you need to clear stacks usually, but that's about it.
What fight you're having trouble with? You might get more direct and useful advice that way.

Reliquary of Souls Phase 2 and Gurthogg. (Black Temple Bosses 5 & 6)

Souls Phase 2: Slow down. Keep your dots up, then focus on healing yourself (as you need it). Barkskin and Survival Instincts (if you have access to it as Balance) can be used to reduce the reflected damage. Spec HoTW and go Bear for 45 seconds?

about someone doing it as a Boomie around your ilvl.
On Gurthogg, is your DPS not high enough to kill him before
Acidic Wound
stacks too high, or what problem are you running into? I can't think of a way for Druids to clear that, so killing him before it kills you or healing through it might be your only options? Maybe going Bear would help, lower DPS but higher armor/health/damage reduction... though if you don't have agility gear... :-/
Dunno, maybe someone who knows the fight and/or balance druids better than I do can suggest something else.
