Running out of mana quick with fire.

So I'm 99% of the time frost. I tried to go fire to see if this would be better for 80 instances as sometimes I forget to take out my water elemental which isn't too good for DPS.

I seemed to totally run out of mana almost every fight, just by using PB for the start and then fireball.

What am I missing / doing wrong as fire so that it's like a mega mana drain?

Is it a rotation i'm doing wrong in fire?

Not really doing anything wrong probably, I can't tell from that text alone. Fire is just very very expensive and totally inefficient compared to the others. Frost is very mana efficient, seems impossible to oom unless you somehow get mana drained etc but it's a bit lower on the damage -- not by that much thou. Frostfire really seems to be the only way to go.

One could always do minor adjustments to the spec but it's still going to be a giant drain, a drain that it would take very good mana management skills and other people helping you with your mana to accomplish and in a 5 man or 10 man those people might not be there so you are sort of on your own.

You will have to time the usage of your one potion per fight, your evocation (if you can skip it that would be great since it's a bit of time you don't do anything -- or you try and do it on your last second of icy veins .. which you didn't have). The other one is eating mana gems - eat them as soon as you can (you know how much a bit restores in mana, when you used up that much you take a bite -- if you have T7x2 you might wanna time it a bit more since you get a mana surge effect which increases your damage), when slighlty depending on the fight such as is it going to be over soon etc you create a new one after you ate the last charge etc that way you should be able to go more or less indefinitely.

... the short version; FIREBALL is just more expensive mana wise, and with Burnout it becomes even worse. Fireballing just isn't the most "bang for the (mana) buck" anymore.

Its because the raid fire spec goes a little deeper in Arcane than that...

First, you need Spell Impact, its a raw 6% dps increase on Fireball and Pyroblast
Second, with Fire mana issues, you kinda Arcane Meditation
Don't be afraid to use Glyphed Mage Armor either.

I'm currently raiding Fire with mage armor, i have no mana issues at all, and my sustained dps is far higher than our Frostfire mage.
The good thing about Fireball, which doesnt make it obselete toward Frostfire, is because Fireball got a seriously higher base damage as well as far higher Coefficient. Due to that, a 20/51/0 Fire spec will probably reign supreme against a Frostfire spec when we get to higher raiding, much like how Bears where Epic in kara and yet they sucked in BT i guess...

Try that. 80% Mana regen while casting is far superior to 3% crit in my book, especially with mana issues.

Oh and i missed:
Your rotation as Fire should be Scorch x2, Living Bomb, Fireballx4, Living Bomb, Pyro when it procs...
The problem with this without the mana regen support is that Living Bomb really a mana drain (it costs the same as Arcane Explosion) so, even if it does provide good dps, you should skip it if you dont have the mana avaible.
