I choose Crematorium as a name to my mage cause i like to use the fire mage tree.
Now the problem is i simply can't play fire. It's impossible. it is the lowest dpser around i can't do !@#$ in pvp and the pve it's awfull.
Fire mage at this point as been put too garbage.
I'm forced to play as frost mage if i want to do some damage and that is sad.
I do hope the Devs are seriously working on this tree.
I spent almost 100g changing from arcane to fire last week. i was advised not to but i tougth it couldn't be that bad, I was tottallly wrong the fire talent is messed up is not worthy it shouldn't even be there for what is doing rigth now.
I'm hoping i can get back to have fun as a fire mage. i ant ashes on the ground not frozen corpses. :)

Is that winning fun or losing fun?

Winning fun; stuff dies quickly to it so that's all the matters to me.

Does that stuff include other players?

Fire was never a to go PvP spec.
Hansol would disagree I think, if you mean what I think you mean by 'a to go PvP spec'.

Someone spoke too soon, maybe?
Fire
Enhanced Pyrotechnics now causes a stacking 10% increased critical strike chance (up from 5% per stack).
Molten Armor now increases spell critical strike chance by 15% (up from 5%).

well first you can check Crematorium - aggra to see that i'm reasonable geared atm.
Second i have to desagree on the part that fire is not a pvp spec. It was a pvp spec. i had tons of fun pvping as fire mage. Not that i'm a pro or something like that what i'm saying is i was able to play pvp as fire.
I disagree on the point thta only one tree is able to be a pvp or a pve. It's a matter on how you like to play your mage.
I like to play in fire spec but as i said before it's not possible.
A simple example. Tryed it hunting those elite wolfs for savage blood. In frost i have mirror image and my elemental that dyes and i pop another that also dyes when he's about to get me i can trap him cause i use the frost shield that explodes a nova frozing him in place and he's trapped.
Now in fire i have mirror image that are instant killed. he get's near i use dragons breath. 4 secs dazed. the rest you guys know the story i get eaten by the big bad wolf cause it's impossible to catch him with just one stun. TAKING A FOLLOWER ISN'T WORTHY CAUSE THE WOLF GONNA KILL HIM FIRST AND YOU HAVE TO WAIT 1 HOUR TO GET THAT BACK.
Conclusion only frost is now thhe only playable tree in this game. the most damaging one and go figure the one that gives survavility.
Sorry for wall of text.

And you don't wanna ear the complains of others in dungeon finder that are using meters when they say - for a mage you are a pretty crappy one - or - look at is dps is so low.
So please let me use fireballs and pyroblasts and watch them burn muahahahahah.
Sorry my crazy side. And i do have to agree in one thing this game so far is AWESOME.
So i know it will be fixed. Maybe Santa will bring me a hotfix on the fire mage tree :) !

Well I'm only level 96 with half or less prideful at the moment, but personally in PvP I might even find fire easier to play, because on frost it seems to easy to be shut down during frozen orb. Yes I can use evanesce for a 3 second immune window, or even 6 seconds with cold snap, but then I lose ice block, so once the burst is done I'm in a vulnerable position. (I'm thinking of BGs here. I haven't played mage in arenas). Also on fire I don't have to fiddle about with clicking for pet nova. Instead I have Blast Wave. The 70% AoE slow is nice, even though 4 seconds isn't that long, but with 2 charges that's 8 seconds. I admit that it does seem like hunters are OP in comparison. I'm hoping that's different at 100. Feral druids can be tough too, but with 2 nice heals every 5 or 6 minutes with glyph of regenerative ice, another heal from Cold Snap every 3 minutes and a potential heal back to full every 90 seconds with alter time I have been able to do well in PvP. I go with Ice Ward for kiting melee, contrary to Hansol's advice of Ring of Frost, because in BGs I don't like having to stop moving. I guess you'd wanna listen to Hansol more than me though, given his success. I guess Ring of Frost could be better if you learn how to use it well, since with Ice Ward, they do get a hit in before it triggers, meaning you could be slowed or stunned. I also like blazing speed. I can see what you mean about Frost being easier in PvE due to your pet taking aggro. That makes sense.
Interestingly though, fire mage tops noxxic's list of realistic PvE dps damage for each class/spec with BiS gear against both 1 and 3 target/s:
http://www.noxxic.com/wow/dps-rankings#BiS,real,1
. Even with level 666 gear, they come in at rank 3 against 1 target and 2 against 3, which is very high. Note however that with 630 ilvl gear, the fire mage falls to 19 on the list against 1 target, although they only fall to position 6 against 3 targets, which testifies to their ability to multiDoT using Ignite, Combustion and Improved Inferno Blast, I suppose. I hear CombustionHelper can help with maximising this dps potential, although I don't use it myself.
Just having checked your gear, it seems that might be the problem, since your ilvl isn't much above 630. However, if the noxxic link is correct, you should still be able to put out very nice damage against 3 targets. I have no experience of this at level 100 or in PvE myself however, since I'm not yet at that level and I haven't been doing dungeons.
I admit that my average performance as a fire mage hasn't been as good as on my fury warrior so far, in terms of KBs and damage at least, although my fury warrior is in full prideful at 92 and since my mage isn't yet 99, I don't bother trying to multiDoT since I don't have Ignite. I'm not sure how much my seemingly reasonable performance so far as a fire mage has been down to factors other than the strength of the spec though, such as having a good team. I'm hoping that the level 100 PvP dps rankings for a fire mage in full PvP gear are as favourable as those for a fire mage in 666+ PvE gear on the noxxic link I posted, or if not then at least as good as they are for 630 ilvl gear against 3 targets.
All that said, maybe if I get to 100 I'll come to the same conclusion as you.

Well I've reached 100 and I'm in full combat gear so I've tried some 2s and 3s. Actually beat 2 hunters in 2s with a lock, but that was probly more down to the lock than me. The thing I find annoying about fire compared to frost is that sheep isn't nearly as effective, since to do any useful amount of damage as fire you use multidots and this can't be avoided as far as I know, since Ignite automatically spreads the dot to the healer, if I'm not mistaken, bringing them out of sheep. This seems to make sheep rather useless.

It's not ignite automatically spreading, it's Inferno Blast that's causing your ignites to spread. It's range is 10 yards though.
I always assumed that in pvp that you'd move your targets away from cc so as not to break them accidently from cleaves.

Yeah: I knew that. It just came out wrong when I typed. What I meant when I said 'automatically spreading' is that because Inferno Blast is an essential part of fire mage's rotation, there is no way to avoid spreading the dot/s to your sheeped target, unless as you say, the target has been moved out of range.
It's range is 10 yards though.
Didn't know what the exact range was. Thanks for the info.

Hadn't considered that. Might try it. The fact that the range of the Inferno blast spread is only 10 yards makes damaging whilst CCing easier than I'd realised. I just need to go and find out what 10 yards looks like.

It's very frustrating what a poor job Blizzard did on the mage class.

I've played fire off and on since I started back in BC. I'm not the best fire mage, but I have a lot of fun with it. There is nothing like getting lucky with Hot Streak after Hot Streak. I've never been concerned with who does the most damage or what not. Does the boss die? If so, great. If not, then I check my talents and what not and make sure I've got everything in the best shape for whatever fight and try again. I'm not competitive, I just try to have fun and chill out. (sorry, frost mage joke)(##RESPBREAK##)16##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##This is a very old thread. Let's try not to muddy the waters by bringing up old, outdated stuff.
