Prot actually looks quite viable for soloing, at least from what I gathered during my tests on the PTR. I know I'll level my warrior as prot to 80, that's for sure.
Might want to take Shockwave though, it's fun.

Just don't doing it with a Sword and Board.
this could very well change. blizz is trying to make it so we can actually do more damage with a shield than an off-hand weapon for soloing.

You should not have trouble soloing as a Prot specced warrior. Just don't doing it with a Sword and Board.
Why not? If you are specced into the talent Sword and Board, and you also have Shield Specialization and Shield Mastery and Gag Order and Critical Block and Damage shield; why would you NOT use your shield?
You pick up an offhand weapon and what does it give you? 50% damage, increase chance to miss... Do you think that's really going to be a great DPS increase?
How am I going to solo? Prot spec, defensive stance, tanking gear, with a shield, and doing 700+ DPS while taking almost nil damage.

On ptr with shield block on I reached a 4.8K crit o.O
