For gearing pvp, I'm not sure what to take as a cloak as none of the pvp cloaks have str. In this case would it be best to take a pve str cloak or just use a tank cloak?
For example:
pvp ret
vs
pve ret
vs
tank

Hi,
I'm a retadin with very good PVE gear and i folllow elitejerks gearing up in pve.
Doin this i have quite some gear with agility over the strength versions, cause they are simply better in pve (some BiS).
I'm talking about these:
NECK
,
RING
,
BACK
&
WAIST
.
I have all these for my PVE spec and they work nicely.
However, what of these are good to use for Protribution?
Even my Protribution
WEAPON
has agility. Is it better to take a tanking one with STR like
THIS
one i have , cause there's no 1Hander with str to dps with.
Is agility good for it or would you replace them and with what? Another PVE item with STR or the PVP Ret version?
I have 2p T9 tanking gear 245 (Hands + Legs), 2p T9 PVE 245 (Hands + Legs), 2p T10 pve gear (264 head + 251 shoulders) and quite some pvp gear i can use.
Thanks for your advise, protributioners :)

Right off the bat I'd say switching to STR items would be more beneficial.
We have no updated math for protribution (unless squishy has been working behind my back) and thus it's hard to say if the sick amounts of crit gained from agility outweighs the AP gained from STR.
From what i can tell from our early math (pre-3.2), is that protribution scales better with STR than ret does and therefore it would be more beneficial to stack STR rather than AGI.
Bottomline, switch to STR items, my guess is that it would be best for you.
P.S. Don't use a tanking weapon, you'd gain like 20 AP but lose ~2-3% crit.

Thanks mate.
Are the T9/T10 PVE Tank 2p bonus worth getting or should i just stay with PVE ret + PVP ret gear and ignore the Block Value?
Is expertise worth looking at?
Do you think the 264 PVP 1H weapon
(THIS ONE)
is worth getting at 1800 rating for this spec?

Nope, no new math. Yep, Str > Agi, especially up to the ShoR cap. The extra crit is useful, but not so useful in PvP, which is where agi-based classes suffer a bit more due to resilience.
If you can get equivalent ilvl items in Str versions, then use the Str ones. Otherwise, it's still probably an AP increase to use the BiS ones.

Tank 2pc bonus is pretty nice, admittedly. I couldn't give you the exact measure of whether it's better/worse, because to get the +20% HotR, you're giving up 7 second Judgements (which is generally nice for PvP) and 150 AP from 4pc PvP.
If you do (and I'm not saying that you should, because I honestly don't know), I'd swap out the gloves definitely (don't need 5% extra CS damage), and it'll be good for hit rating. Pick whichever other piece you want, preferrably one that minimises the Str loss.

That's an awesome weapon, and very much better than your PvE one hander. Especially once you shove a +20Str gem in there.

a pretty basic pvp setup would look something like this:
http://www.wowhead.com/?profile=20917287
the hardest item is from 10 man ToC which is a cakewalk nowdays (can be done in 20 mins) with arena/icc gear you obviously get better and better.

Dawnsun, no offense intended to you but that is a terrible build. You might want to re-read the thread on why you would spec Protret in the first place. You are missing out on all of the good Prot talents, as WELL as all of the good Ret talents.

I'm partial to "protret", but "pret" works well too.

It used to be called Retection by failblog, so really, anything is an improvement. Protret works, but it reeks of a PvE 0/53/18 build, a la Holy-Prot or Holy-Ret.
And for what it's worth, Shockadins still have a place in the world. It's just harder to make it work. You could use a Shockadin in a similar sort of way that you'd use a Disc Priest in Arena - CC / healer which can switch quickly to offense for a burst.

Disc Priests can at least Holy Fire and then spam Smite/Dispell. Holy Paladins cast Holy Shock and Judgement, and then wait for cooldowns to come back up. Granted, a Disc Priest doesn't have the survivability of a Holy Paladin, but it has a lot more offense.

As a Shockadin, if you're not glyphed for Holy Shock, then you're doing something wrong. Holy Shock, Judgement, Holy Shock, Exo, Holy Shock, Judgement... They have cooldowns, but they're reasonably easy to chain together.
Post by
Rydiak
5 second cooldown, 1.5 second GCD... So you are standing there doing nothing for 3.5 seconds every "rotation". Sounds like a "reasonably easy chain" to me too.

Dammit, lost my post.
You're standing there doing nothing for 2 seconds each 'rotation', since Judgement and Exorcism fit in between every second Holy Shock. And in that time, you could be doing other important things, you know, like using Hammer of Justice, Repentance, you could fear lock/DK pets. Or do something mildly defensive, like Hand of Freedom, renew Sacred Shield, or Cleanse.
Assuming Arena, you're not going to be standing there freecasting like you're an Arcane Mage. I was just pointing out to you that you completely missed Exorcism in your list of Shockadin abilities, made that much better because you can still melee while you're casting all of the above.
Anyway, if you want to discuss the feasibility of Shockadins, take it to Arannia's thread. My initial comment on it was just to say that they still can exist. Let's not divert this thread any further.

Alright... in pvp bg, most ppls use laughing emote to me while I'm on horde side but I am on top scoreboard with a lot kills and I just ignore their laughing emote to me. So few days later, I went again and they still do that same emote all the times but im still on top. Few allies came to my server and starting QQ onto me because I am so OP.
I don't think it is so OP to pvp, I just
spec
it that way normal, mine gear is ret pvp gear and mix pve tank shield, neck, ring, and etc. I also carry
ret's libram
and
trinket
that help buff up str for add BV.
Heh...when I facing healer, I use SoJ buff for doing CC the healer in pvp bg and arena for letting other team dps clear it then went after healer. I just knew that spec is doing well in pvp arena but 1 small problem is lack of heal.

It's not a PvE spec. Its viability for PvE was wiped out when Seal of Blood disappeared. Sacrifice on the tank without Divine Shield will get you flattened pretty quickly.
Realistically, it's a PvP burst spec with additional elements of survivability and control over Ret. Ret has more sustained damage though.
