This also makes professions far less mandatory for new players and people that might want to roll on a new server. When I was a new player, I learned the hard way that crafting professions got you nowhere if you wanted to be able to afford your mounts. These changes mean you can go through early levels without collecting and trying to sell every damn node, herb, or piece of leather you come across. You can actually level a crafting profession from early on or skip them altogether.

Time is unequal to difficulty. Travel is monotony, not challenge.
Is it making the game easier? No - but it is making it less time-consuming to reach the areas and levels that are actively undergoing development and attention by Blizzard.
Personally, as a second-generation WoWer (started with the release of TBC) I welcome the change; it will allow me to level my alts more quickly by reducing the travel time inherent to leveling in Azeroth.

I love lower mount levels. It was always a pain getting around places at low levels, but now... well--yeah. xP
Although it does suck, remembering the good 'ole days on my Night Elf rogue, farming, farming, farming 1000g (or however much. Lul.) for my epic mount.
But it's easier now, so, by all means, yay!
