uh.
AoTD tend to be a problem in alot of the boss fights due to adds and stuff...
even if there is no adds, all ur ghouls would prolly die from aoe pretty fast as most endgame raid bosses have some aoe ability..
as for whether or not it would out benefit extra 2 pts in necrosis..
probably .. not sure..

well it not only halves the cooldown it also reduces aoe damage your ghouls take by 70% thus reducing the chance of you aotd wiping from an unanticipated boss aoe, also reduces your raise dead cooldown to 1.5 mins effectively doubling that ghoul's dps as well
so you lose 2% of your own dps in exchange for 200% of your army's full dps within the same time frame given it's army friendly
will prob best benefit heroics as it'll be able to be used twice per run

the problem with army is you cant use it every boss. There are A LOT of bosses you cant use it on.
The biggest problem isnt that they taunt off the tank, its that they will pull mobs across the map into placements that are detrimental to the raid. Not to mention face mobs the wrong way for aoe attacks your trying to keep from hitting the party/raid.

Thats the main problem with using Army for DPS, its casting time.
If you take 6 seconds from your rotation to use it you will do far less damage then just doing your regular rotation.
The only time I would see being viable using AoTD in a raid is a time when you have no face time with the boss, but will very soon, so you use it in preparation of facing the boss. (Gothik comes to mind, or right before your raid engages the boss)
If you channel it
mid fight
then your just wasting time and runes that could be much better spent.
so as spec is concerned, you should be attacking the boss more than waiting on AoTD CD, necrosis will help DPS much more than that wasted talent.

i think popping aotd b4 u pull might be a valid use for the atk...
i mean.. if hes getting 5% for necrosis.. then 2 pts would be ~2% dps..
so if aotd> 2% dps.. then sure... if not.. then keep necrosis...
im sure aotding b4 the pull is okay on alot of the fights...

Idk about you guys who tank, but nothing is worse then going "OMG WTF" as you see aggro ripped off you in the blink of an eye due to ghouls, who last approx 4-5sec in most fights.
I have kicked other DKs from raids for doing this with them claiming it adds to their DPS. I agree with every one who as said that 6sec cast time < 6 sec of a rotation. There is only one thing i have ever used AotD on and thats phase 2 of Blk Knight. Everything else doesnt need it. AotD is a solo/BG spell nothing more really.
And I know im not the only tank that has had this happen to them, so save urself some trouble. And either do 5/5 necrosis or 3/5 necrosis and 2/2 epidemic.
nonono in raid situations...
AOTD DOES NOT TAUNT OFF RAID BOSSES
AOTD DOES NOT TAUNT OFF RAID BOSSES
AOTD DOES NOT TAUNT OFF RAID BOSSES
AOTD DOES NOT TAUNT OFF RAID BOSSES
kk... ive done it in sarth 3d zerg pre pull lol... it was a pretty big increase...

AotD only taunts tauntable adds in raid situations. It does not taunt bosses.
AotD is a huge dps increase on boss fights, the 6 seconds lost while summoning it are more than made up for the amount of dps they give. Especially if you can time to summon them when all your trinkets/raid buffs/bloodlust are all popped. Major dps increase.

that is assuming they dont die immediately due to boss aoe. even so, u can do it pre pull, which would have no negative effect on ur dps during the fight...
i personally do it b4 a sarth 3D zerg.
