^ That's why they do it, because of oversensitive, affirmative action fruits like yourself.
.
Absolutely hilarious. And it seems totally true.
The proof is in this very thread. All I did was say that if people laughed it off or ignored it, it wouldn't be such a big problem. And look...I have a little kid screaming at me calling me names like a 4 year old.

Randomperson1:

<After a bit more drama, we finally get to the quest turn in>

Not necessarily "scream", but I get #$%^ed off when anyone uses "u, ur, y, r" and etc. seriously. As well as ":D, :)" or any other text emoticon seriously.
I don't like it when people are lazy with their typing, but leave emoticons alone! Text is very cold and it's really hard to convey emotion quickly (at least without doing something flowery that'll just confuse a large portion of the population). Emoticons are the best thing we've got for that.
There have been lots of situations where not using emoticons could lead to bad social situations. If someone might think you're trying to be sarcastic and rude, adding a smile is a fast way to change the emotional flavor of your message.
A 'Please' and a ':)' go a long way towards getting people to do what you need them to quickly without being mean.
Over use of them, or misuse is still bad of course. But then again, too much of anything is always bad (otherwise it wouldn't be 'too much'.)

Get the Automatic Goblin Therapist Heckler, it solves that problem rather nicely. :S
