Thanks for the replies. I've always been under the impression that it's most important to be hit capped before geming for anything else. I figured whats the point of having a great weapon if you can't hit anything? Oh well - I'll use the polearm and just depend on future gear upgrades to make up for the loss of hit rating.
If we could gem for pure dps, we would.

PS. Whats the point of hitting anything if you do bad damage? Swinging for low damage and never missing is not always better than swinging for higher damage and missing sometimes. Thats why we have stat weightings in the stickies.

You have to remember, under hit cap doesn't mean you won't hit anything, it means you have a small chance of missing.
And, as others have mentioned, 5.4% is what's needed for Heroics. 8% is for raids.
Hit is important to cap, but never before weapon DPS (imo).
