No one wold look at the "tips appreciated" anyways, so your better off just how it is. or you can force people to give you a tip or you keep product. its a harsh ultimatum, but its an option.
I cut 10 Epic gems and 20 regular cuts for a guy the otherday and at the end he didn't give me any gold. when my macro says something like " LFW 3g per normal cut and 7g per epic" when i was giving him his gems back i gave the regulars first and the epics last(not intentionally) so when the last trade came about i was waiting for the gold and had to ask him about it. He said he didn't owe me anything and it was my duty to help out other people when i could. "really?" was my response and i took 2 of the epic gems off the trade window and traded him the rest. I claimed the 2 as my tip. I knew the value of the 2 was worth more than my price but he just $%^&ed me off with what he said.
So about 2 hours later i had a GM start talking to me because i "Stole" his property according to the other guy. I explained my position to the GM and what he said. the GM and i talked it over and i ended up having to give one of the gems back. But i still got my tip in the end Lol

That's really funny. Countless times I saw leveling crafters who offered gold for a skill point. Then suddenly... when they ding 450... they feel superpowered and
pretend
a tip. Come on, be serious.
Tips are OPTIONAL and there is no need to ask for them
. "Tips welcome" sounds like a beggar, no more no less. Just apply a fee in your advertisement, like many crafters do. Period. Everyone knows how this game works. If I feel the need to tip you, I'll give you some gold. If you question about the amount, go outside and take some fresh air because you seriously need it.

I never get tipped for doing any enchants...people in WoW are so cheap. That's why I stopped doing enchants in Trade. Now I might make vellums to sell on the AH or I just enchant for guild members.

You sir is an ^&*!@#$. If you expect a tip it is not more a tip but a fee. And if you dont declare your fee before crafting something, you are an #$%^&*!.
Me I alway link my trade skill with how much I want for the craft. " LFW. Your mats + 15g fee".
Completely agree with you there Wildhorn, a tip is optional, it's nice but not required. If you want gold then say so before hand.

You can't expect a tip, then its not a tip, its a fee.
And if you expect that fee but dont declare that fee beforehand, its your own damn fault when you dont get it.
Amen. I've tried to point that out to people, and I always get the "But restaurants require a tip, so I do too!", which is actually not true for most restaurants unless it's a large party or a VERY upscale place.
I don't advertise. I'll respond to people looking for something specific, but I won't respond to "link ur profession pleeze". Those people %^&* me off; there's sites and crap where you can look up what you need, don't waste my time and get my hopes up at making some money.
The other thing I do is when I respond to people looking for a specific craft, I'll respond back with the recipe link AND how much I want to make it.
Don't like it, go somewhere else. I'm not your personal pocket crafter, get over it.

tip:something you give if you want to, you never asked for money in first place so its your own fault
Fee: you pay me for i cut it and you agree before the deal is done
how many time's do we need to say it? give the fee/tip idea a sticky so people understand soon

Do you guys still expect this tip/fee if you level up? Or even if it's yellow, i.e. there's a chance you'll level up.
I don't mean this to sound like trolling, I'm actually curious. I can't think how you would achieve the high levels without someone supplying the mats or spending a ton of cash yourself.
For leveling its different. For leveling, I offer free if I level a point (with their mats). Some even pay people to use their services!
I don't tell people what my skill level is, since I don't respond to demands to link my profession(s). If you don' know what you want, I am not the guy that's going to link his profession and patiently wait for you to pull your head out of your ass and figure it out.
If you advertise that you're "looking for a LWer to craft ", I'll respond to it if I have the recipe, usually by whispering you back with the recipe link and my crafting fee: "/w <dude> I can make , your mats, for 10g"
I never tell people my skill, because too many people then assume that, because you might gain a skill point, they have every right to get the craft for free, or worse, get PAID for getting the craft.
Really, if you're that damn cheap, make your own LWer. I spent a lot of time and materials getting to that point with my professions, and I have every right to not only expect, but
demand
compensation for my work.

If you want to make a decent amount of money so that you can always buy whatever you want, when ever you want it. NEVER repeat NEVER advertise LFW in trade.
While I agree with you on this point, there *are* exceptions to this. I personally made 2.5-3k gold in the few days immediately following the patch that introduced epic gems just from charging for my services. Mostly I was making them for people who put them in their own gear right away so I wasn't helping to flood the AH. I was getting tipped 25-50g per cut depending on rarity (red gems were cheaper because those were the cuts every jewelcrafter bought first) and I was advertising my 30 cuts that I bought on day 1 of the patch quite consistently. Very rarely I cut many gems for people to sell on the AH and that is only when I am not also trying to sell epic gems of my own. I have so much gold at this point that trading is more of a hobby than a necessity. Thanks jewelcrafting!

LFW = Looking For Work. Work implies compensation or payment for completion of a task another cannot or chooses not to do themselves. If you want epic cuts and don't want to level JC yourself then don't whine when asked to pay for a service rendered.
I cleary advertise my own JC with 25 per epic cut, 5g for reg. Dailys are abundant and if you can't manage 25g per epic gem cut you probably shouldn't be using them in the first place.

Beggar
"tips welcome"
"what, no tip?"
"no fee, but I accept tips"
"tips welcome! (idiot smiley)"
Professionist
" + ad sentence + fee/no-fee"
Slacker
(possibly a beggar)
""
" "
Yet again,
declaring that you accept tips is like yelling "1G PLZ" in the middle of the town
. You look like a poor beggar, you stink and flies love your smell. Accept it.

25G per cut is a bit too much in my opinion. What if you cut 3 gems for me... 75G? Come on, it's not like you have the best profession of the world unless you're the only one on your server and dominate the market. In any other case, crafters (of any profession) are abundant and anyone can do it for much less/free. Begging is bad but asking too much -imho- is equally bad.
