How to Fully Experience Story?
Return to board index
Post by

I want to play the
whole game through from start to finish
. I never really learned any of it, and I had massive amounts of time now. Even if I need to level all different alts to experience the different phases, I can do all of that.
I just want to experience the whole story from start to present. Any suggested path? Trying to figure it out myself and I'm rather flummoxed. Thanks!

Well pick a race you want to explore. Each one will have quests and they will all take you through the different stories. When you are higher level the Campaign quests are the ones to go for.

1) To fully experience the story, create a character on Classic WoW and go through the level 1-60 zones (Before any expansion content)
2) Then Swap back over to Retail WoW and go through The Burning Crusade content on a character via Chromie time. You will gain a lot of XP so you might turn XP off. Do all the dungeons and raids too. You can one shot all the bosses at a later time if you'd like.
3) Head to Northrend and complete all those zones , then dungeons and raids.
4) Go back to Azeroth and do all the zones you did on Classic WoW, but on retail because deathwing blew them all up and they got "revamped".
5) Complete the cataclysm "max level" zones, dungeons and raids
6) Start the Pandaria storyline, then the dungeons and raids as well as the patch content (Throne of Thunder quests and Timeless Isle mostly)
7) Start the WoD Storyline, then all the dungeons and raids, and patch content (Hellfire zone, tannana jungle)
8) Start the legion storyline, then all the dungeons and raids, finish your artifact quest as well as the surumar quest chain, then do the zone content below dalaran that unlocks class mounts, then do the argus questlines
9) Go into BFA and start those zones, dungeons and raids, as well as patch content which would be mechagon and the underwater one that i cant remember the name of
10) I didnt play shadowlands so i dont know
11) I havent played dragonflight so i dont know

And after 1 through 11 you will be a loremaster, like myself. All quests. PITA to get but it was fun. Getting it is far easier now. No more killing endlessly waiting for a quest starter to drop from a mob via RNG.
But 1 through 11 will get you there. If you do zone by zone sometimes you will get a cut scene. Most of the time you wont. Those come later on in the game. But they will tell the story.
Let me give you some tips.
Freeze XP often and near the transition to a new XPAC. Since chormie time, once you pass that threshold you will get kicked out of chromie time and brought to the preset. They yank you of where you were and plce you in DF. This is at 60 so freeze xp at 59.
I dont think you realise what you are getting yourself into here. At least not yet. Timewise this is massive. A massive amount of time to do the whole game from start to finish doing every quest in every zone, every dungeon, every raid -and to do it in order of release. My only suggestion is NOT to go classic at all and do the retail classic and freeze XP or just start one shotting everything once you get to 59. Otherwise if you go the classic route then you will be doing kalimdor and eastern kingdoms twice. That alone can take a few weeks not matter how much time you have. Not every quest is one shotting crap.
Get a foam sword. Get Deepholm potions,
Potion of Deepholm
for when your heartstome is on CD. You will use these a lot if not a druid with
Do this on a Nightelf druid for stealth and instant flightform or a mage for portals. Trust me. This alone will make your journey a lot easier and faster.
Good luck is all i can say. Ive been playing wow a total of a few years. I only last 6 months or so in any new xpac before i get sick of the work required to get anything done. Thsi game is fun but can take all the time you give it. IT willt ake all of your time in the day if you let it.
You have no idea yeat what you are planning on doing lmfao

Since they removed Vanilla 1-60 content, theres no way to truly experience the whole game unless you have been playing since Vanilla.
Wow Classic has a lot of the removed content, but it has been tweaked and changed soooooo much that it is nothing like the game was when live.
Your best best is to do the following: (classic realms don't count as they are just supposed to be museums to visit, but it's not REAL WoW - only retail is REAL WOW)
1 - start retail and complete all the content across dozens of zones on the main two continents.
2 - then do all content for BC, Wrath, Cata, MoP, WoD, Legion, BfA, and Shadowlands (lock your level at a capital city so everything stays a challenge)
3 - then unlock leveling again and enjoy Dragonflight from levels 60-70
Each faction has about 15-18k quests (plus there are hundreds of daily quests on each side - but these are repeatable so they dont really count as true normal quests)
Get it out of your mind that you need to rush to the endgame or max level. You will get there in time. And you could do all the content in WoW Classic before all the above, but it would be on a character that has no connection to the real WoW and will never be able to transfer. So doing what I listed above is the best way to experience everything on one character.
Do it for an alliance character and a horde character and you will have seen almost everything. There are some temporary events and questlines that were removed from the game, as well as a few legendary item series of quests. But that is about 100-150 quests total, so you are still seeing almost everything.
EXAMPLE:
I played since Vanilla and completed every single quest in vanilla content, except for maybe a dozen of them. Once Cata came, all these quests were remade into new quests and about 1000 were completely removed.
See how much you have completed:
When in game, go to Achievements > Statistics (look under Quests Completed - NOT Daily Quests) Quests Completed shows you how many NORMAL quests you have completed on the character so far. If you did everything in vanilla, add +1000 to that total. If not or you missed it, then dont add +1000.
Take the Quests Completed total and subtract "Daily Quests" from that total. The new total is how many NORMAL quests you have completed. (Normal quests only count ONCE, while daily quests count for every time you do one or repeat one)
I have close to 12,000 quests completed (after subtracting daily quests) and I still have about 4000 quests left to complete in the game right now. The bulk of those quests are from Azeroth's first two continents and are low level. But once I finish, I should have about 16,000 normal quests completed, plus 1000 from vanilla that were removed - bringing my total to about 17000. Plus 1000 different daily quests and that brings me to 18,000 individual quests completed total.
Then if I want to see everything, I would have to go through all expansions and do every quest for the opposite faction.
Never listen to people that say "the game begins with endgame" as each endgame content (for each expansion) only consists of about 1-2% of the total game's content. 80% of the game is all pre-endgame. Just normal quests across all the main zones. So the journey to endgame is everything.
Some players will start a new character and boost that character so they can start with the newest expansion. And that is fine. But to see everything, they would still have to go back to complete all the other content that came before.
WoW is meant to be played over a long time. You can play 18hrs a day, 7 days a week for a full year and still only experience about 10% of the game. Aside from quests, there are different achievements, pet battles, crafting, gathering, battlegrounds, arena, world pvp, dungeons, scenarios, raids, mythics, rated battlegrounds, rated arena, skirmishes, world bosses, world events, world rares, exploration, treasure chests to find, and so much more!
You choose how you want to play. You can spend your time on one main character and see everything for the first time. Or you can create multiple characters and repeat that content on different classes/races. Some even makea bunch of characters and leave each one in a different part of the game (early cata, bc, wrath and so on). You have unlimited possibilities.
If you truly want the whole story, make sure you complete every raid and every dungeon and every battleground at least once. You should also click on and talk to, listen to or just watch EVERY NPC you come across. Most NPCs have a bit of lore and story to impart on us, especially in the later expansions.
Have fun and remember, there is nothing to rush. Every part of the game will exist whether you get to it today or 5 years from now. Try just to have fun and experience all you can and eventually, in time, you might just experience everything :)(##RESPBREAK##)272##DELIM##Uchur##DELIM##Please create new threads instead of replying to old ones
