I say the hunter wasn't doing all he could.
Misdirect has a 30 second CD. If the warrior tank can't thunderclap fast enough to get the next waves, a MD + Multishot will take care of it.

Mages and Pallies got saves. Use them to drop aggro.
Hunters got traps, hunters got MD, hunters got pets, hunters got FD. DKs got taunts too!
Mages got Freezes, mages got Invisibility!
Pallies bubble or HoS everyone! Come on...
In any case, the only thing that could go wrong, is if BB died. In any other case, you could do more.
Your DPS sucked at pulling aggro, and your tank sucked at letting the healer get Heal aggro. I mean, wtf? I have never been in a situation like that since TBC..
And yes, Warriors do this gauntlet just fine, as long as they got 51 points in protection.(yet not mandatory)

prob when you completed it in the past with lower dps you had a overgearing tank or healer carrying the group... which you lacked this time...
as a druid healer in nax25/ulduar gear it's not very hard to even keep a crap group allive in hos during that encounter...
one thing to also watch for is the lasers and the bombs... they come in the later phases, and if the fight is getting out of control (or already lost it) the lasers and bombs are usually not watched for, finishing low hp ppl off if the healer is having a hard enough time to keep everyone allive

I see people talking about warriors being bad if they fail at the Bronzebead event in HoS or at Thorim. This is a slight elitism.
It's not so much that they're bad; its that these are two of the most challenging warrior tanking encounters the game has to offer at current.
These two encounters, and to a lesser extent things like Razorscale add phase, require some very intelligent use of your Thunderclap, Cleave, and Shockwave, AoE taunts, and require good target choices (tab targeting) as well as a lot of movement. Also, they require your group to know that a warrior tank only has snap AoE threat, and not sustained AoE threat, and adjust accordingly... although once you got it, this is less of a problem.
In short, they're the encounters you can't tank like you do pretty much everything else in the game before them. They're the encounters that TEACH bad/average warrior tanks how to be good tanks.

from being on both sides of this equation (hunter dps, dk tank) i can offer a little adivce.
personally i hate this encounter more than any other in all of the heroics. it is absolutely the worst (yes, even more so than occ and OK).
as some of the people said above, one of the problems was the hunter probably misusing his MDs. the first waves of adds are not hard, and should not need misdirect. he should also be using his frost trap whenver it is up. an explosive trap well behind the tanks works well too (behind them so you don't pull aggro right away, but can still deal some damage). when the mobs start coming like crazy at the end, it's MD and multishot/volley.
now for the dk. i have done this as a solo dk tank, and as an OT (with a warrior MT). the key thing in either role is to leave a blood rune up at all times. that ensures you can always use blood boil to grab aggro on a group of mobs. for single targets you always have death grip, dark command, even icy touch! as a tank, i would not use DnD as blood or frost, so that you can save that blood rune. dnd takes two runes, blood boil takes one. i find in this kind of fight that one rune really helps to have available.
