I just have a quick questionn for the tanks out there, if you go for frost resist for the Hodir fight is it safe to ignore the defcap and just go all out for stamina?

why would it be "safe" ignore the defcap? he can crit you know. thats why you have defence cap, so he cant. besides, who needs resistance?

I am the frost tank, so yes resistance is VERY important. At least as far as my healer are concerned.

Ok, would someone let me in on the joke?
Hodir needs frost resistance. It says so on this site. We tried him last night wth me at 313 frost resist and the defcap. My healers asked for more resist. So either i'm not that good a tank or my healers aren't. I don't think it'll be possible for me to keep the defcap and get more resistance.
Now, will someone at least try to answer my question?
And since i know someone will ask, here's my armoury;

Every time I tank Hodir I put on my FR gear. I have essentially the same hit and expertise, slightly (like maybe a % or two) less avoidance, but the frozen blows are made nearly inconsequential. There's no reason not to use Frost Resist on Hodir if you have it; it's less incoming tank damage.

It is recommended to have your tank wear 1 piece of frost resist (makes the healer's lives so much easier when dealing with Frozen Blows). Frost Resist is not necessary on any of the other raid members though... If your healers are having trouble, they are doing something wrong.

Our group found that if the DPS aren't being aware of their surroundings they take a lot more damage than necessary, causing healers to have more stress. So if the problem is your healers not being able to focus on you and keep you alive, maybe you should examine the superfluous damage being taken by your dps.
One or two snowdrifts-of-death falling on 2-3 dps really adds up as far as healing is concerned.
From personal experience, since I'm a druid tank I wear full frost resistance for this fight, doesn't hurt me being crit, and can only help mitigate the frozen blows. *shrug*

One piece of frost resist and a resistance buff (aura from paladins or totem from shaman) is required to prevent tank death. He melees for over 20k on 25man and frozen blows does 40k every hit when none is resisted. Unless you have like 65k HP, you're not living without FR.
540 defense is also required to prevent tank death.
More resistance after those two criteria are met are just bonus to make the healer's jobs easier (especially if you're doing hard mode and the DPS aren't wearing resistances or you have less healers.)
Personally I wear 4 pieces of resist gear, but it's easy for me to do so and remain at the defense minimum.

4 pieces? If you use the 3-piece set + Frost Res Aura, I think you are already over the frost res cap. Right? So, you shouldn't need 4 pieces, unless you are not actually using the full 3-piece crafted set.
err, you're right. I wasn't actually wearing 4 pieces, I was wearing belt, chest, ring ho ho ho. I forgot I switched my boots. 399 resistance

We use nada frost resistance gear these days.
In the beginning the tank had a frost resist ring on, nothing else. But after starting on HM kills, the tps loss (Small as it may be) from using a frost resist gear isn't worth it.
We use 2 healers (10man) which usually either is a Shaman/Druid or Shaman/Priest.
A thing which you can do as a tank to make it easier on healers through Frozen Blows is to use your CD's each time he uses it. Frozen Blows happens roughly each minute. Making it possible for any tank to use a CD through each one.
Warrior: 2min Last Stand, 2min Shield Wall.
Paladin: 2min Divine Protection, 2min AD (I know... I know (: )
Death Knight: 1min VB/BS, 2min IBF
Druid: 1min Barkskin, 3min "Last Stand copy"
