Help and Advice for Allied Races Please

Shadowlands is here and I don't even have my Allied races yet!
It has taken me all this time just to grind away at all the quests needed to get exalted with 7th Legion - I was going for Dark iron Dwarf.
Now I find there's a bunch of other quests including a dungeon!
Grinding away at quest after quest like this is not how I like to play and I rarely do dungeons and I have never done a raid. I'm an older player who has a life outside of WOW. just like to quietly plod around doing quests at a leisurely pace.
I used the group finder to do "The Motherload" which is what I need to do next but after grinding away at it I did not come away with what I needed - the rest of the group just disappeared at the end and I was left standing there by myself. This is the reason I don't like doing dungeons - everyone charges around doing their own thing - you're supposed to be part of a group but you aren't really.
I love WOW and have been playing since the second expansion but I'm getting more and more disappointed with it because it seems to be more for people who love to grind away madly at anything and everything. I really do hope Shadowlands is much better.
Anyway after having my &*!@# session what I want is some advice on how to get through this - I've read what I can and watch videos but all the information in the world isn't going to help if you can't get people in your dungeon group to be a little more considerate or something.
So any advice anyone?
Or do I just do what I'm tempted to do and forget about Allied Races - which basically wastes the money I spent on buying the expansion.

Hey Moibhehm,
Long time lurker, first time poster here.
I know that the allied race requirements have been substantially cut down as of the pre-patch, with the reputation requirements no longer being a prerequisite.
As for the questing requirements, the only feedback I can provide would be to alert your group in the dungeon as to the reason you are there immediatley. And I mean, as soon as you walk in the door. Usually other players are already aware of the additional areas inside dungeons where quest completion is an element and if they know that a detour is needed to complete this - you are going to have a much easier time encouraging players to do this during rather than after the dungeon.
I hope this helps and I wish you the best with your goal. I know dungeoning can be frustrating sometimes with the 'go-go' types, but unfortunatley - these people are here to stay and the systems design has encouraged this style of gameplay.
Happy adventuring! :)

Thanks for your reply
I guess part of my problem is that because I don't usually do dungeons I don't really know how it all works so thanks for your feedback it will be helpful.
I have since set myself a challenge to go through as many dungeons as I can to get into the groove of them mainly because I was checking out the zone list and there seems to be more dungeons than general questing areas and it seems I'm missing out on a huge chunk of game experience by not getting into them.
