Healers: What kind of DPS do you prefer?

This question is mainly for the minority of the WoW community - the healers.
Being a melee DPS (rogue), I often get booted or just not invited to raids/heroics anymore because of everyone wanting ranged DPS, regardless if I pull 6k+. Is it really that hard to keep melee topped off?
At first, I thought it was because I just brought no buffs to a raid, but when I asked the healers why I am always getting booted/uninvited they told me because they didn't feel like spending their mana on DPS...whatever the hell that means.

Healer's mana -> Tank
DPS shouldn't be taking damage. at all.
Melees are more likely to steal aggro. Or maybe not, but if a ranged get aggro, the tank got a few seconds to pull the mob back before it reach the dps (so avoiding the damage). As a melee, you can get almost-one-shoot right away. And about AoE damage, the rangeds can skip almost of it.
Tip: is not the healers fault if you're dying (here we go again).
=)
EDIT
As a healer, i would rather have a enhanc shaman as a melee dps for 5man =)

In a raid setting if a DPS is getting hit by avoidable damage, they're probably instantly dying. If you're in a raid and they're not healing DPS, melee or not, they're likely just idiots. You have healers
assigned
to that kind of thing for goodness sakes.
"I don't want to heal melee DPS" hasn't been a valid reason for not inviting a rogue since they nerfed BC heroics.

This isn't necessarily true. While DPS shouldn't be stealing aggro, standing in front of a mob getting cleaved, standing in the bad stuff, etc... there are
many
places where AoE damage is inevitable. If you're dying consistently it probably is your fault, but that isn't always the case. Sometimes it really is just a case of a terrible tank or healer.
As a healer myself, I don't really have a preference. If the
player
has a little common sense, I can work with just about any class. Melee can be a little harder to handle simply because they're right in the thick of the chaos and more prone to taking damage, but I'll still take those over brain dead ranged people.

As a healer going on 4+ years now, I can say my primary preference is for dps that knows what to do in any given situation or is otherwise capable of making intelligent adjustments when necessary.
Doing 6k+ dps is great in and of itself, but is ultimately worthless if you're constantly pulling aggro and spend half of the run dead. Other than that, I don't care if you're ranged or melee. I don't care if you're completely epic'ed out or not as long as you can do your job and can reasonably exceed the minimum dps requirement for the situation.

Thanks.
As I expected, intelligent answers from intelligent people.

I agree with the majority here: good dps > bad dps. However, the room for error is a bit bigger for ranged dps than melee because most ranged classes have skills to lower aggro and use those skills.

and the melee more like to take agro idea is rubbish.
That was
not
what i said.
If a hunter steal a mob that the tanker is tanking (lol), the mob will have to walk the 30yards to attack the hunter (well, a melee mob). That will take like 3seconds, time enough for the tanker taunt the mob back. No damage to the DPS, less work for the healer.
If a melee steal a mob, the mob will just turn around and attack the DPS in less than a second. Unnecessary damage.
They have the same chances of taking agro from the tanker.
standing in the bad stuff
No one shouldn't be really taking that damage. At all. Wowhead is here to teach you where you should
not
stand.

Just to add, as a healer melee or ranged doesn't matter to me, and the melee more like to take agro idea is rubbish.
Actually, if you are melee it is easier to take aggro away from the tank as opposed to being ranged.
You need 110% threat to take aggro as melee, 130% if you are ranged.

Of course no one should be taking that damage, that's what I said. :)
There are encounters (yes, even in 5 mans) where AoE damage is inevitable regardless of where you're standing. Unless you're standing down the hall by yourself not in range of anything.
Ingvar the Plunderer
in Utgarde Keep comes to mind off the top of my head, as I just ran the instance on an alt. Take a look at his
Staggering
and
Dreadful Roar
abilities. They're hitting everyone, regardless of whether they're in melee range or not. That's an entry level 5-man in Wrath, hardly a raid or anything terribly complicated.
