Our guild currently has about 5 mages on our 25 man raids and oddly enough, not a single warlock.
None of our mages are casting scorch. One is arcane, the other 4 fire. Some of the fire don't take improved scorch.
Improved Scorch also increases your personal crit by 3%, so there's no reason for not taking it.
With 4 fire mages, you don't even need the glyph. Each mage only needs to cast it once (1 does need to cast it twice) to get the ball rolling.

Yet another thing to consider is the unavoidable place in ULD/ToC where casting downtime occurs.
Scorch slave is thrown into pot during Ignis and can't refresh in time so stack falls off, ramp up at beginning of Razorscale ground phase, ramp up for heart phase of XT, stack fall off during air phase of Stormcaller, scorch slave gets hit with eyebeams on Kologarn and stack falls off while he's avoiding it, ramp up on adds in emalon, kobolds on Northrend Beasts, underground changes on Acidmaw/Dreadscale, silence after Icehowl does his thing before charge .... the list really goes on and on. Thats a lot of time where you (and the rest of the casters in raid) could be throwing nukes with a full 5% crit buff instead of wasting time while someone stacks again and again.
What did GC say about playing a Mage.. oh yeah if you can't make it happen L2P a Mage.
I'm pretty sure you're arguing for a point that has been said over and over, if you're the only mage then Scorch glyph can be a big help and when you drop one glyph drop FB/FFB.
I think you missed the "unavoidable" part of my post. It has nothing to do with player ability. You can't anticipate being placed in the pot on Ignis or the beams on kologarn. The rest are just examples of where precious nuke time is lost ramping up scorch stack because of phase/target changes.
And for the record, I play Arcane.
BTW, GC wouldn't know how to play a mage if his life depended on it. Ask him how MI works sometime ....

Saying "refresh scorch a cast or 2 earlier" or "change your rotation" means another drop in dps btw. What you're suggesting amounts to 1 scorch every 20 or so seconds instead of 1 every 28-30 or not throwing a HS pyro out that could get overwritten. Glyphed, you don't need to worry about weaving more scorches into your rotation pre-emptively. That makes it "worth it".
