Good point actually. Arthas did not raise the entire Scourge single-handedly - there were necromancers doing part of the work for him. Granted,
most
of the Scourge was his creation. Or at least most of the original Scourge - I am not quite sure how things have gone after he merged with Ner'zhul, as it appears that he's been freezing his butt off on the Frozen Throne instead of raising undead minions. The Cult of the Damned seems to have taken over that easy task as of lately.

Well, honestly I can't really imagine the scourge able to think with intelligence after Arthas is dead.
Honestly, a good example is killing the queen ant of a colony, all the ants go crazy and don't know what to do and just die off.

well it all started with the lich king and since he was the first one who bringed undeath in azeroth (or 2cond war orc necromancers;) it will all end with him thats my opinion
but thinking again, if all the undead and the forsaken too died because the lich king dies would be a little..... "screwed up"?

Actually it was the Dreadlords who created the necromancy magic, but they taught it to the Legion who in turn have taught it to their servants, the warlocks of the 2nd war, then the Lich King and his servants for the third war.
And there's another twist they could actually do...... Lich King dies, but the Dreadlords return and take over, providing the power of Undeath to keep the Scourge up and running.

On the note of Sylvanas taking over, I doubt it, she dosn't have the power to keep the Scourge in line like the Lich King does.
But, provided she had the power and the oppertunity to, I think she would. It all boils down to this: ultimate power corrupts ultimately.
Just like Kerrigan from Starcraft didn't go back to the human side after the Overmind died (taking control of the Zerg Swarms instead) I think that Sylvanas - again if she had the potential and oppertunity - would take over the Scourge.

In all perfect honesty chances are that Darion will take the LK crown and possibly Frostmourne (as an excuse so we cant have it) and he will take command of the leftover Scourge while using his new power to kill the still Arthas loyal minions

It all depends on how Blizzard plays it; if without the power of the Lich King in the world, all the undead will just keel over and go to the final rest, which would include the Forsaken. But we all know Blizzard wouldn't do that because people like to play rotting falling apart toons and serve a queen who has undergone many many model changes.

Actualli Sylvanas does have the psychic ability to control beings, she charmed many to aid in battle to defeat Varimathras and defeat the remaining Nathrezim in the plaguelands.
In regard to the comments of them returning to life or dying and the zones returning back to normal i don't think this would happen. World of Warcraft isnt some disney film where when the bad person dies everything turns back. It has alot more depth than that. That was in her Banshee form, I don't think her Dark Lady body could do the same anymore. And it's possible to recover from the Scourge Blight(the effect on the ground from Scourge buildings we saw in WC3), but the amount of time and effort for that would be immense. I'm sure the Druids could figure something out..... but then again Felwood has been corrupted since the end of the Battle for Mt Hyjal so...

Actually, her Dark Lady form did have the ability to "Charm" her enemies.
