On top of that, I am pretty sure he is either trolling or is 6 years old. This might just be the Wowhead forums, lacking even really mediocre grammar expectations, but at least attempt to form complete sentences if you are trying to convince someone else to think the same way you do. You could have the greatest idea in the world in those last two sentences (?), but without the ability to communicate it effectively, then it is all in vain.
As for the topic, I would summarize the original post in this thesis: "Gear is less cool nowadays because everyone has 'epic' level items. The awe-factor is gone." I would unfortunately have to disagree with this statement, assuming I read the post correctly. Though it is true that epic-level items have become much more commonplace, there are many weapons and armor sets in the game that many people do not have, and as such instill as sense of awe. A perfect example of this is
Val'anyr
, the insanely hard to get legendary-level healing mace. I have only ever come across one person on my server with that, and the moment I saw it, I knew they were a skilled healer, because of the process required to obtain it.
Now, granted, the Tier sets and most other gear pieces have been made much easier to obtain recently, with the changes to emblems and the way Tier sets are purchased. However, Blizzard's prerogative with this game is not to create this "elite-club" that only 2% of the population could ever hope to "join". They learned this lesson way back in Vanilla, when only the greatest raid teams on the server ever made it into Naxxramas and AQ . Ultimately, they don't want to design content that only a percent of the population will ever see; they want to design content that everyone can enjoy and that everyone can master.
The main key in reaching the above ends lies in giving players easy access to gear that allows them into those raids and dungeons. As such, it could be stated that many players who aren't necessarily ready for some of the end-game raids (skill wise) might have been able to obtain the gear to look ready for it; and at that end, I do agree with you. However, because of the intense and often skill-based nature of today's raids, their level of readiness does shine through in the end, and though it might cost you a wipe or two before you recognize it, that's the price to pay to allow everyone to experience the content that Blizzard designed for everyone to experience.

So true. Another way of proving if someone is a good player is the specific achievements a person will have (Dungeons and Raids / Arenas / FoS and so on..).
PS. Just trying to promote the wonderful Achievement system that Blizzard gave us ^_^

Personally I think they should add a new quality inbetween rare and epic, make normal epics the new quality, and to have a real epic you have to work (Hard modes for example)
Of course the new quality items will be strong as now, epic will just mean you worked for it.

This actually wouldn't be a bad idea.
Poor = Gray
Common = White
Uncommon = Green
Superior = Blue
Rare = Purple (current Epic-level gear)
Epic = Red (current Epic-level gear that drops from hard modes, raid end bosses only)
Legendary = Orange

Well, i think Blizz wants to use Red for Artifacts...

I thought Artifacts were brown/tan? Same color as heirloom items, because they're technically level-less items?

Been thinking they needed another itemlevel that actually meant something (more common than legendary but more rare than the everyday epic). Someone who has any game-time left please post this on the official forum.

Well, before the implementation of Heirlooms, Artifacts were tan. But Now Blizz wants to change the color.
But some old Artifacts items are still tan (like the GM items)

Adding another color of gear to the game will do nothing more then create another meaningless symbol of quality that really does not portray the wears skill or success. In terms of simplifying the game, isn't making Epic items the new 'norm' doing just that?
Ultimately, those colors do nothing more then make you feel better about what you are wearing. When I gearcheck someone, I don't look to see if they are wearing all epics, nor do I care about their average iLevel. What I look at is the actual stats that those pieces provide, since that is the part that will matter. Why does the color that the items name is (in the tooltip, for god's sake) make any difference? By the logic that you have suggested, should Blizzard change the color of all the Epic items in the two previous level brackets (60 and 70), just because they aren't anywhere near as good as the ones today?
And yes, I will admit that my mage is basically the exemplification of this entire thread. He is geared primarily in well-fare Epics from ToC and Badge turn-ins. Does this instantly guarantee that my DPS will be lower then that other mage that is in full Tier 8/9? My GM (a warlock) is geared quite a bit better then me (with gear from ToC-10, Tier 9 and such), and we frequently trade places with each other in the DPS charts. Gear does not equal progression or skill. Skill equals skill. Gear just helps you along.
Finally, just as a correction: the current item quality indicators in-game today are
Grey -- Vendor Trash
White -- Common
Green -- Uncommon
Blue -- Rare. Obtained primarily through dungeons. The same level Heirlooms are considered.
Purple -- Epic. Obtained primarily through raids.
Tan -- Legendary. Incredibly hard to get, but slightly better then any other option at that iLevel.
Red -- Artifact. Not currently implemented. Frostmourn and Ashbringer were/are expected to be here.
Tan -- GM-Level Items, not useable by players.
