about three weeks ago i saw a horde hunter with the gigantic elite corehound found in Shadowmoon vale. it took up the entire argent crusade tent on the torunament grounds. I dropped MM for BM (duel specced with survival) and went to try and dtame him. well, i tamed him, but he shrunk and became non elite. Is there any way to have a pet that remains elite? because i have seen people with them.

Once tamed, the elite mob is not longer elite. There are a few things that can make a pet grow large so it may have just been a temporary thing or a bug.

He is completely right on this, the Core Hounds do shrink down to size, because it is just weird to have a enormous pet running around next to you. Besides the Devilsaur of course, he is always somewhat giant (well I used to be a Dwarf so everything was giant for me).
Bestial Wrath
is the ability in the BM tree that allows your pet to grow for a bit,
Elixir of Giant Growth
works, or used to work, I'm not sure if they fixed that, I worked in BC, and I have not tried it since then.

I tamed an elite wolf, and he shrunk but kept his elite status. I've read that sometimes they will show elite and sometimes now, but mine has always said elite since I tamed him.
Elite pets have the same stats as regular pets though, right?

Yes, that is correct. Elite pets have the same stats as regular pets.
When you tame an elite pet, it will keep the (elite) tag in the pet's information box that is visible when you mouse-over or target your pet. The tamed pet will not show the gold or silver dragon around their character portrait though, and it does not have elite stats.
Thanks, that's what I thought but I wasn't sure since my elite wolf does more damage than my regular cat (both the same level) and I thought cats had more DPS, but I guess not.
Thanks for clarifying!

I think its good that tamed elites and normal pets have the same stats - because the above poster is right - normal pets would be obsolete otherwise. But all the elites should at least keep the title "Elite" after taming. It just looks cool to see the elite title with its name and level =)
