Except that the prejudice goes beyond treatment? That bigotry is rooted, obviously, in prejudice? Which is a viewpoint? Look, I really don't give a #$%^ about if you're going to get tied down in the semantics or not, I've made my point, and Elura's, very clear.
This isn't just semantics. It's important to me.
We, not just wowhead but society at large, use this word, and others, incorrectly. I think it's worth discussing. I don't want to argue about it, but if we look at these definitions, I think we'll come to the conclusion that attempting to silence someone based on their incorrect views, while perhaps noble in intentions, is bigoted, and the person who may hold the incorrect views (from your perspective), is not a bigot by those views if they don't treat people in a negative way due to those views.
Anyway, I've got to go back to work now.

Hey, guys. Guys. I turned into phoenix. We should discuss its deep-seated psychological origins and the moral ramifications it brings to light. Before I burn up or something.
Can you apparate like Fawkes or...?
Nope. It's pretty lame so far.
@Latin: has anyone gone through the Aeneid in Latin? To this day I still point to that as having some of the most powerful literary lines I've ever read.

You should bump it so we can act all scholarly in it.
I should, but I don't know much. I'd probably be pestering you for titles and whatnot for a setting of mine.
My wife traced my genealogy to Caesar Augustus (Octavian).
That's awesome! Genealogy is a past-time of mine, but I haven't been able to trace my father's line beyond 15th century England. My mother's goes into Germany and Czechoslovakia, but I haven't focused as much on hers.
@Benzene, I totally nerd out about etymology and philology which, of course, leads to an interest in Latin. Even a meagre smattering of knowledge of Latin and Greek open up paths of understanding about modern languages. It's fascinating stuff!
That it does! My school district requires learning Latin/Greek suffixes and prefixes and whatnot, but it's not really the same. I'd love to take a Latin class in college, but I also want to learn Russian...

I've been considering covering Russia for my dissertation (hey, only thing I know enough of that I'm interested in that's not like... east Asia or Egypt), but obviously the languages remain a barrier. I mean, I still can't fully read in
French
, let alone a completely foreign language. :p I guess I still have like, a year-ish to decide anyway? But yeah.

I don't mind pestering! It gives me an excuse to actually blow the dust off of what I know and iron out the kinks. There's not much cause to go around using latin in my daily life.

Well, I was talking with a friend of mine who took Spanish at the same college I'm going to (a refresher course, he was a missionary to Chicago for two years and spoke only Spanish), and he said that all major language require a lot of hours, work with tutors, etc. It made me decide against German, but if Russian is the same, I might go Latin instead.

Awesome! I'll bump it sometime soonish, then, when I have what I need sorted out.

Kurt Vonnegut died 6 years ago today. In honor of him, here's one of his must-read short stories:

I did not like Vonnegut.
Slaughterhouse 5
is one of the strangest books I've read, and not in a good way.
Perhaps it's just that book that threw me off, what with the random "time travel" shenanigans.

To each his own, but I rank
Slaughterhouse-Five
easily in the top 30 greatest novels written in the last century.

I haven't actually read any Vonnegut, but I did read about Ice-9, and that story is now on my to-read list.

Oh, joy. My university city place has a pretty bad outbreak of measles, and I'm going back tomorrow. Now the pestilence has passed on to me.

Go to class in full hazmat. It would be awesome.

I think it's hard to take notes in a hazmat suit. And a friend of mine living in another city in the country recently had a phonecall from some health and safety official telling him not to drink the tap water because they'd had a contamination of some sort. Guess what he was doing 30 seconds before taking the call? He hasn't had any problems yet though so looks like he got lucky.

I have actually decided to embrace the term 'bigot', and make it my own. If my faith, and following of those beliefs make me a bigot, then I intend to be the best bigot I can be.
But it is only OK for those that believe the same to call me a bigot.
And just to make it clear, I would prefer to called a bigo, just so I can tell the difference. MyTie can be my bigo, and I can be his bigo, but if your beliefs are different than mine, if you call me a bigot, it will be considered an insult.

please, just let it drop. nobody is particularly happy with how these events turned out, and there's no need to keep this rather unpleasant topic going any longer than it had to.

Interesting. I have no idea what Magician's post means. I really don't get it. But, what, are we just not supposed to talk about stuff if someone is mad? Really?
I'm so confused by this. We can't talk about this stuff? We have to force ourselves to talk about cats now? Just so no one gets their feelings hurt? Lame.
