First jubi, and now Elura. This forum has just lost 80% of its fabulousness.

Considering my negative levels of fabulousness, you might as well average it out to 100% loss in fabulousness.

What happened to Elura? T_T
She left, and whilst I have her leaving post it'd just be deleted. She basically lost her patience with the modding system of tone-policing rather than actually enforcing its anti-racist, sexist and homophobic rules and kept getting banned for calling it out (not always in the best way, I'll admit). And of course the bigoted views actually endorsed by several posters, that were the cause of discontent by not being moderated in the first place.
I'd hoped to be able to have a discussion with EluraE about all this instead of having her burn all her bridges in an overly emotional diatribe. However, if this kind of thing is going to be stated by you like this, Patty, then I feel the need to respond because the picture you're painting is biassed, unrealistic and unfair.
First of all EluraE has never been banned. She has received two 24hour suspensions. I'm not going to go into the details of those suspensions but they were for clear breaches of the by which users agree to abide when they use the forum. She may also, separately, be annoyed at some of the content posted by other users but to conflate the two things is simply an attempt to absolve oneself of the responsibility for one's actions.
The content she is upset about does get dealt with. If it doesn't get dealt with as harshly or as publicly as she would like then she is welcome to let us know about that in an email to . However, when no attempt to give that kind of feedback has been made there is really no excuse for outbursts and insults.
I really rather like EluraE and I don't want this to become a "them and us" situation. I want her to come back and post. I want her to speak passionately about the things she believes in and stand up to things she sees as injustices. I just need her to do that without open hostility and insults. I'll be really sad if she does decide not to come back.

Don't read nor respond to moderators, or really ANYONE whom you are not allowed to have a fair conversation with, nor control yourself if you are in a conversation with. Don't even read their posts. Don't read their emails. They aren't worth it. Just skip them all together, and treat them like they don't exist.
Works like a *!@#ing charm.

Well, I just felt like others had a right to know her reasoning behind it - I know it wasn't the right place which was why I tried to keep it brief. There were a couple of other things she has said to me, but it's not really my place to disclose them either since, well, those weren't meant for all of wowhead to see. However, I
do
agree with much of her argument, so might be sending an email in the next few days myself.

bigoted views
Bigoted -
utterly intolerant of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one's own
People in this forum, who feel that other views should not be tolerated, and people should be banned for their views, that is bigotry
NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND
. I know that I'm one of these people that is being pinned as the bigot, but you know what, I encourage other people to have different views than me, and my views are certainly not the popular ones here. So, the people who are here, who decry bigotry, and hand wring about tolerance.... why don't
they
actually be tolerant and stop being bigoted?
It is my opinion that Elura should come back and debate, calmly, and intelligently, about any and all issues. That, by definition, is not bigoted.
I'm so sick of people using that word, as a smear, when they have no idea what it means, and therefore try to intimidate people with opposing viewpoints. So much irony.

bigot: someone who, as a result of their prejudices, treats other people with hatred, contempt, and intolerance on the basis of a person's race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, religion, language, socioeconomic status, or other status.

Therefore, views are not bigoted, but the way we treat people, by your own definition. Saying "bigoted views", is a way of smearing someone's point of view. It isn't being tolerant of their viewpoint. That is the irony in this.Hey, guys. Guys. I turned into phoenix. You don't have to use big words to appear smarter, especially in the RB.

I want to change my name to Octavian. I think I'm having an affair with Latin, but I'm not committed enough to actually learn it.

Latin is awesome! Commit! I have a latin thread, somewhere down in the depths of randomness. You should bump it so we can act all scholarly in it.

My wife traced my genealogy to Caesar Augustus (Octavian).

We really do welcome hearing full and frank opinions. Please send them to and I can guarantee that they will be fully discussed and deliberated amongst the whole mod team.
Perhaps we could leave it there as far as discussion in the Bin is concerned though? I doubt there are great merits to a debate on the nature of bigotry right here and right now.
@Benzene, I totally nerd out about etymology and philology which, of course, leads to an interest in Latin. Even a meagre smattering of knowledge of Latin and Greek open up paths of understanding about modern languages. It's fascinating stuff!(##RESPBREAK##)16##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##

Except that the prejudice goes beyond treatment? That bigotry is rooted, obviously, in prejudice? Which is a viewpoint? Look, I really don't give a #$%^ about if you're going to get tied down in the semantics or not, I've made my point, and Elura's, very clear.
