What does training involve?
I get the feeling that the younger peeps are considered to be in more financially dire positions than the older people, hence tips. Ironic, isn't it?
Training? It starts with a 2 week class at the college, that you pay for. Then you go to the course and they take a bunch of trainees out. Then, you get opportunities to carry for the managers. Then, you keep carrying bags for the managers.... Then you keep carrying bags for the managers.
So far I've made 40 dollars in tips, total. I've gone out at least a dozen times. The young guy got tipped 85 bucks because his golfer was a nice guy. I got tipped nothing because my golfer is a prick.
Edit: This girl that took the college class with me, and started caddying a week after she took the class, and making really good money, she's an idiot. I have no idea how she got that job. She's really hot, though. She knows nothing about golf and has the personality of a folding chair.

5 million bolivares ~ 1k USD. That's not entirely unreasonable once you factor in the costs and risks of transport and resale. Likewise, a pizza is 60k bolivares, is about 12 USD.
It's overseas prices, meaning that the oil barons can afford it, but the average person like yourself can't
.
Hence why I'm so desperate to move out of this place.
I wanna live in a place where the average joe CAN afford these things without being rich.
I mean, an avearge joe can afford an Xbox 360 on the US right? 200 bucks isn't a lot of money. That's something anyone can afford. 5.000.000 isn't reasonable at all over here.
Just look at my current situation with SWTOR. I'm dieing to play that game, yet how much does it costs?
600k for the game, 320k for a gamecard. That's almost my entire salary for a month (And I'm not even poor, I'm safely nested in middle-class status). And those prices are from an international website that sells CDkeys and just so happens to accept bolivares (the one website I've seen that does) Cuz on the black market they can cost WAY MORE.
But the REAL reason we're shafted, is because of CADIVI, a corporation created by the government to prevent "Capital Flight".
From Wikipedia's article on CADIVI:
The Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) fixes a monthly allocation of foreign currency to be administered by CADIVI, purchases foreign currency from residents, and
sells foreign currency to the public
and private sectors
subject to approval from CADIVI
.
Bolded the important bits.
They SELL us the foreing currency, not exchange it. If 1 USD = 5500 bolivares, you can bet CADIVI will sell you 1 USD for 7000 bolivares (the extra money goes to the goverment of course)
But wait..... there's more. They only sell foreign currency to people SUBJECT TO THEIR APROVAL which is absurdly hard to gain (For starters you must be a registered member of the PCV, and must NOT be associated with any form of oposition parties to the goverment at all)
and if you though that was it, well, there's MORE. If (lets say for example) someone from the US wanted to mail me a certain amount of dollars to help me leave this dump, they cant. To do that, both me, and that person who wanna mail me the money must be registered and aproved by CADIVI, both me and that person must be BLOOD RELATIVES (not political ones) and even then, that person would only be able to mail me a restricted amount per year, (Usually no more than 2000 USD)
So, yes. we're pretty much in an economical lockdown. its also why Paypal, a method of payment that accepts ALL CURRENCIES AROUND THE GLOBE, does not accepts bolivares, and my country is THE ONE COUNTRY ON THE ENTIRE AMERICAN CONTINENT that can't use Paypal for international purchases, like CDkeys or Gamecards.
Sucks to be us doesn't it? :S

Thanks Kris. I'm kind of at my wits end. Not sure what to do if this doesn't work out. I'm in a depressed area economically. There are no jobs. However, I can't really move since my daughter has visitation with her biological father, and I'd have to pay transportation costs.
The whole thing is a nightmare.
But, life is a rollercoaster. I'm sure Oprah Winfrey will burst through my door tommorow and drop 2 million in my lap so I can do nothing but play with my kids all day.

Damn o_O that really sucks man. That's downright slavery. Asking you to work for free is bad enough but PAYING THEM to train you, without even a guarantee of a job? that's gotta be a crime :S

You pay for the college credit class. You get college credit out of it. But the rest of the training you do for free. You don't actually pay them, but you make no money, besides tips, which appear to be negligible or zip. You don't pay them beyond the college course, which is only 2 weeks. The money I pay comes in the form of daycare for my son, gas to get there, new shoes I needed to caddy, etc.

Losing hope. Getting hungry. Posting on the internet.
MyTie, why don't you take John Boehner's advice and just stop being lazy and get a job. Jeez.
I'm trying. I just got home from working all day.

this isn't a very productive comment. A lot of unemployed people lack a job because there aren't any. That doesn't mean they are lazy.
Its true there are "some" individuals that are too damn lazy to work for their money, but unless you know said individual in person, we can't really pass judgement. I'm pretty sure Mytie is doing the best he can to get a job.
I know I did when I had to get mine, after graduating from college I was unemployed for nearly 4 years, and during that time I wasn't sitting on my ass, I was spreading my curriculum on every single place I could, and scaning ads on the news paper regarding posible jobs.
Just saying man, jobs don't always land on your lap when you need them the most.

Exactly. My point is that John Boehner doesn't understand that and MyTie generally agrees with him. Now the tables are turned and MyTie is saying how hard it is to get a job. Derp
I don't know who John Boehner is. =/
Also, no &*!@ being unemployed is hard. My mom, who makes 3/4 of the money for my family, was just unemployed for almost a year. She almost had to go out on permanent disability. I !@#$ing know jobs aren't that easy
Whoa, calm down bro'. No offense intended. I was just saying that when someone doesn't have a job, its not "always" due to being lazy. Nothing more. Nothing less.

We do have google, but since that dude is a politician from a foreign country, you can't honestly expect me to know who he is. (Without the proper context that is)
I mean, do you know (Without having a proper context) who is manuel rosales? Pablo perez? Radoski?
One usually knows all the big-name politicians of their own country, but hardly hears anything from the politicians of other nations, with the exeptions of presidents. (And actors turned governors)
I mean other than venezuela, I only know the names of 4 other presidents of other nations. If you named me the president of canada, that name wouldn't ring a bell without the proper context.
And yeah, I never said that either. Sarcasm is hard, i know.
Sarcasm relies A LOT on proper context that must be set up in advanced, and tone of voice. On the internet, its much harder to recognize it unless you identify it (By a "/sarcasm" or similar remark)

I'm not sure whether you're trying to troll me or not. This isn't a political thing.
In the event that you are being serious, I'll respond.
The welfare society we create in the US allows for people who are impoverished due to their own actions and continuing laziness to survive off of the money of other people. That, I disagree with, and would support legislation that decreases welfare dependence, and increases the requirements for people to receive government aid. This isn't a priority for me, though. We send aid to Egypt, and North Korea. I'd rather pay a lazy American my money than a third world dictator.
However, this doesn't represent me. I'm currently in one of the most depressed economies in the US. Coos Bay, Oregon is a service based industry and has a very high unemployment history. I have attempted to secure a number of jobs with different organizations, ranging from the Sheriff's department to sales. I have to get a job that pays well enough to justify getting a babysitter. At least when I stay at home I can take care of my 3 year old.
I dislike your attempts to lump my beliefs together with some politician, without having statements from me. I have always taken a position that we should help the poor, and have attempted to help the people around me, monetarily, and in any other ways I could.
I've had a hard day. This isn't based on political stuff. Please don't bait me, if that is what you are doing.

I didn't know who any of those people were, until I GOOGLED THEM.
