1) Just gquit again until you find someone who knows how things work.
2) Heal the MT on a 25-man raid. If he doesn't die, you win.

if your guild doesnt realize the utility of having a disc priest in the raid, the officers simply need to shut those people up and tell them to l2play or learn about other classes besides their own. if its the officers, find another guild. IMO... do my #1 below, then gquit and join a better guild out of spite
there are a few ways to prove to them disc doesn't suck. i had this problem in my old guild and ended up gquitting because they simply sucked.
1) get a combat log of the fight and upload it to wmo.
1a) if you do not know what i'm talking about: to get a combat log you type /combatlog. then it starts recording the combat log to the logs folder in your WoW directory until you type it again or log off.
1b) wmo is a asian based WWS which is far more accurate. it shows all your absorption from DA procs and pw:s. (
http://www.wowmeteronline.com/
)
this site has recorded myself at about 6k hps...completely destroying the other healers.
2) do what the poster above me said. you can have your recount guess what it is for you. it isn't 100% accurate (but they don't know that). it's basically something to get other people to shut the hell up. every time someone spams a healing meter thinking they are all that because they are #1 in my guild, i show them mine, and depending on your play style it can show you doing 4x the healing.
it seriously reminds me of back in the hyjal/bt days when rogues thought they were destroying the damage meters in one of my guilds while they didn't have BM hunter pet data merged with their owners. the rogues were constantly flexing their e-peens thinking they were amazing, just to realize a month later that the hunters were kicking there butts all along.

What we need to do is petition Recount to add Damage Prevented to their meters, and equate it into their Effective Healing. =D

Matticus just did
a post
in which he recommended a new log parsing web site called
World of Logs
. Unlike WWS, WoL includes the mitigation effects of Divine Aegis and PW:S in its parses. I haven't researched it (i.e., its accuracy compared to RecountGuessedAbsorbs) but it's certainly worth a look.

Ask them if the fact that you have a shield that heals for 7k, and never overheals doesn't count.
Ask them if the fact that you add 3% less damage to the entire raid doesn't count.
Ask them if your Divine Aegis procs don't count.
Ask them if the fact that you can add an extra 8 seconds of survivability once a mob enrages doesn't count. (Pain suppression)
Ask them if the fact that you can either help out a flagging healer, help yourself out, or boost a caster's DPS doesn't count. (Power Infusion)
If they say they don't count, /facepalm at them and keep going. Seriously. I always basically double my healing on heal meters as I figure that's probably more accurate, what with the 30% from Divine Aegis + Power Word: shields.
I've ALWAYS been discipline. It's my spec. I tried holy once, hated it. I just love PREVENTING damage rather than going "OH !@#$ GOTTA PREHEAL" like holy needs to. I'm not far into Ulduar, but I helped two heal with a restoration druid and my gear isn't amazing but respectable.

Basically... tell them to F off, as long as your tank doesn't die it's all good.

Meters don't matter. Sure they're nice to flex your e-peen, but if no one dies, then you did your job right.
The Recount mod helps in convincing the non believers of disc healing on the go, and a WWS parse is glorious.

Eh, sort of. I'm a disc priest and a religious user of meters, but not to prove that I'm great. It's to see what I could do better. And when I play with other disc priests, to see what
they
could do better.
Everyone should feel accountable. Our mitigation is not easily measured, so Recount meters show us in an unfavorable light. But if you ignore meters -- "hey, the tank lived, so I did my job right" -- then you're missing an opportunity to learn and develop. What was your healing profile, the balance of spells you used on any given fight? Was your
dragon soul
buff kept stacked? Was renewed hope up 100% of the time? Did you time your Power Infusions optimally for the fight, woven between
other
buffs
?
When I run with another disc priest and see them casting Greater Heal too much (or at all!), or not enough Penance compared to Flash Heals, or too many Prayers of Healing when there are other AoE healers around...I think you get the idea. There are many useful things we can learn from meters that go beyond pure e-peen flexing.
BTW: my guild is rather enlightened. They were excited when I applied as a disc priest, and know I bring tremendous utility, passion, and skill to our raids. They never allow meters of any kind to be posted, period. Not that meters aren't being watched, but they aren't treated as the final irrefutable evidence of your success or failure. If you're not performing, we'll all know it.

I am a disc. priest myself. I once had a holy priest call me out in a raid and implied that my heals would suck because I am "lolsmite spec" (her ignorant words, not mine).
I then proceeded to double her in overall healing done. /flex

Iso my question to you seasoned healers is, is overhealing looked at often by anyone else? why or why not would you deem this stat to be important?
Not. If you have mana, everyone lived, then what does overhealing matter? If you're out of mana, people died, then yes, I would maybe glance at it. As you said though, meters don't nearly show everything.

I guess i should have said "Meters don't matter
when competing against other people
". Of course use them to increase your effectiveness.
But i'm just too lazy to care about my 100% uptimes. I raid casual and we do pretty well for a casual guild, and that's all I care about.
Sad to admit i don't even have a dragon soul. The computers i play on limit me to 10 man raids. I've done a couple 25s when i had the opportunity on another computer, but I've only won a ring that was a sidegrade. -_-
