Also,
Atheistic Temples/Churches already exist.
And, not to derail it any further, as an Atheist, I find those very silly... :P
/shrug You may find it silly, I find it amusing, but they do exist lol.
So it's a religon about hating and denying religous beliefs
Why is it i'm not suprised?

Personally, I think Platypus' idea of treating them as discrete terms in the context of Warcraft is a good one. I'm all for clear language, and since "Holy Light" is a specific thing distinct from Elune worship, Sun worship, etc, then I think as a matter of convenience it is preferable to reserve "holy" to the Light and use sacred as the generic term for things of religious or spiritual significance.
Nah, since if you were going to do that, then the Night Elves with their Holy and Sacred Goddess Elune would trump any of the short lives.

Does elune let you drop giant hammers from the sky?
Exactly
(Btw, Elune stuff is called "Lunar")

Okay? Annnnnnd that has what bearing to the discussion at hand? So what if it's called 'Lunar'; it's still a Holy and Sacred force to the Night Elves, the Ancients and the Green Dragon Flight.

'Lunar' would still be a form of light. You know, moonlight?

Are we arguing semantics now?
http://www.wowpedia.org/Holy
This page refers Holy as simply Holy Light- based energy, A subset of divine energy which also would include Natural, Druidic, Shamanic, and Elune Worship (Lunar for simplicity).
Shadow might be considered Divine magic, Considering the "Forgotten Shadow".

I think I'm missing the point of this whole discussion. Are we arguing that Elune's Priestesses use a different sort of 'magic' as Human priests? Well, yes, they do (you know, discounting that whole 'Elune is a Naaru' theory). Are we arguing that Holy Light is more powerful than Elune's power? Well, I wouldn't say that; we haven't seen them go head to head, except very early in the Third War, and that wasn't really measurable.
Likewise for the Sunwalkers/Seers. Those are just sun-based druids.

We're arguing whether holy refers to divine magic and sacred objects in general or just light-based.

I'm arguing holy, in a purely theortical and scientific take on it, would imply Holy Light derived energies.
Whether or not the mooncult heretics that are not burned and should be burned via massive holy f
-oh wait not in warhammer, nevermind.
Whether night elves call their lunar stuff holy doesn't really mean much when it's innaccurate does it?

Inaccurate according to who exactly? Why should the short life humans have any right to have a monopoly on a term?

We're arguing whether holy refers to divine magic and sacred objects in general or just light-based."Holy" is both a descriptor of something (the dictionary definition being "specially recognized as or declared sacred by religious use or authority; consecrated:
holy ground
."), and also a title attached to the
Holy Light
.
Moonwells could be considered "holy," using the first definition, but in a different context than the Paladin's "Holy" tree. Ya see?
One thing that I find interesting is that most of Elune-based spells are actually classified as
Arcane
(even though they would
actually
be arcane magic). See
Starshards
,
Starfall
, and
Moonfire
.

Why should the treehuggers dictate that they can call their moon-thingy holy?
Currently it's an arguement between the philosophical and exact terms.
The philosophical and common term "Holy" simply refers to a place of worship and other blessed areas, the exact term in magic theory (Magicology?) states holy means holy magic.
Yeaaaah, lets just go with sacred for the former and holy for the latter
EDIT:

Their purple.
Arcane magic is purple
Hence it's arcane magic.
LOGIC!

Or it's all sacred....and to the original Orcs, the 'Light' was just magic too you know.....

Okay, yeah we're coming at this from different perspectives.
I was saying that we as players in the real world should only use "holy" when referring to things pertaining to the Holy Light or the holy spell-school, strictly as a matter of clarity.
I was
not
arguing that other in-game belief systems are in any way less valid/sacred/divine than the Holy Light. Nor was I saying that characters or official lore need to use such a narrow definition. Obviously holy in the conventional meaning could be applied to any of them from the perspective of the make-believe people or cultures in game, but when players are discussing lore out of character, it creates ambiguity to leave it so badly overloaded (textbook definition, in-lore religion, game mechanic?).

Why can't elves call their stuff holy?
I mean, in real life, Jews had the "Holy of Holies" in their temple, Christians have the "Holy Grail," Islam has "Holy War," etc. It's an adjective; you can't patent it.
Yes, I agree that when talking about game mechanics, it's simpler to use "Holy" to describe the Holy Light and the abilities related to it. However, it seems just silly to argue that elves shouldn't be allowed to say that "this Moonwell is a holy place."
