Balance Damage over time and Damage per second

It never occured to me that one needs Dot and Dps balanced in order to get in to raids.
I have tried many things to keep my hit rate up enough while increasing mana regen and haste, but that doesnt really work out for a mage.
Can we have a discussion about this so I'll know where I am going wrong?

first priority - drop the pvp gear.
second priority - change to a spec that's not as hit reliant.. 18/53/0 is a great spec, but it relies on a TON of hit rating to work properly, and that's ridiculously hard to get before you're in full naxx 25 gear.
Read this and get at least the majority of the gear found in it -

Once I have enough gear from 10 men I'll be ok for 25 men Naxxramas. Right now I am still using 18/53/0 and I have DPS of 2000 under DOT of 2 minutes but I run out of mana in 2 mins still.

replace your helm.. seriously.. very little pvp gear is worth a flip in raids... at the very least replace your meta in it with the
csf
.
you still need a LOT of hit to make the 18/53/0 spec work. you're running 6.5% hit and you need a bare minimum of 14% to be hit capped.... and that's IF you have a boomkin/spriest and draenei in the raid.
your headpiece, shoulders, cloak, and weapon are all missing (or improper) enchants.. your a tailor, for one thing.. there's no excuse for you not to have your cloak enchanted. If you have the flameheart spell scalpel, then you have enough rep to get the arcanum of burning mysteries from kirin tor for your head piece.... resilience is worthless in pve, drop it from all your gear and work on getting a full pve set that's completely seperate. for your shoulders, if you don't have any rep with the sons of hodir, i'd suggest starting.. until then, go get the old aldor/scryer shoulder enchants from shatt.. they're just as good as the lower end shoulder enchants.
also... why do you have a gem with agility in your chest piece? o.O any gems you have that aren't straight spellpower or pure hit should be the two

to make your meta that i mentioned earlier work.
okay.. Tl:dr -
GET MORE HIT OR CHANGE SPECS
.... actually, regardless of spec, you need more hit. Enchant your gear. Drop PvP head and put proper meta gem in a good pve head. (

there I finally de-graded myself and increased my Hit to 8.62....

Go for arcane.
Arcane spec allows u to reach Hit cap the Easy way.
Arcane Focus + Precision gives 6% Hit to Arcane spells.
U only need 286 hit rating to reach the 17% hit cap.
Fire build u are using doesn't have any +hit talents.
Gem/Chant for Hit rating.
Yellow Gems put in Hit. (
yellow
or
orange
)
And seriously Change the 8Agility + 8Haste gem in ur robe.
As head, go for the WG
titan forge hood of dominance
or the
blue tailor easy/cheap to make
head with + hit and put in the meta Achloryn linked.
If u dont like arcane try to get at least 346 hit for FFB build with precision.

wow..Thanks, now I have DPS of 2500, which is reasonable for 10 men naxxramas.
As I am working on my character with your help I really appreciate it.
The hit should be atleast 14%-17%. This I will work on.
As for DOTs my damage over time which is 2500 (unfocused, and Combustioned) is still under 2 minutes.

if you're bound and determined to stay fireball (which, I must say, I admire your tenacity because that's a hard spec to gear for) then yes you'll need to get your hit higher.. However, you ARE improving! 2500 dps in naxx 10 is nothing to sneeze at.. I think I was only averaging around 2k the first couple times I was in naxx 10.
Here's what I think your next goals should be... Get rid of that silly 8 intel/3 mp5 gem in your boots. If you're gemming for anything, it should be 19 SP, 16 hit rating, or
this gem
for your meta requirements... Speaking of which... you don't have a 2nd blue gem for your meta to be activated.. That needs to be fixed. Put that blue gem I linked into your boots, and get a blacksmith to make you a
eternal belt buckle
and drop another one in there.
After that...
enchant your weapon
. You could put a 50SP enchant on that weapon, and change your glove enchant for
precision
and come out with more spell power.
Try to keep finding gear that will give you more hit rating without sacrificing too many of your other stats. Fire is a great spec, like i said earlier, but if you sacrifice too much spellpower to get hit capped, then you're gimping a lot of it's power.

I am persuading the hood as well as the neck piece still.
8 int + 3 mana regen every 5 seconds. If I remove that. It'll really eat up my mana..people already pick on me for having 14k mana, but anyways.
I am trying to keep 1600 spell power which is reasonable for 10 men naxx, while I upgrade my other stats.
will post again after I meet the next goal.

You are also Glyphed wrong. Glyph of Fireball for an FB/TTW spec is more DPS than Glyph of Molten Armor until you are in some late Ulduar gear (more spirit). If you are replacing something for Scorch Glyph (which imo is a waste anyway) you should replace Molten Armor Glyph.
Combustion isn't that great of a talent, you're better off moving that point to student of the mind.
Int / Mana regen gems aren't great for DPS.

You mean that fire rotation that works with Scroch (stacks 5) on enemy is a waste? And I shouldnt worry about my Int?...
Change the Glyph of Molten Armor that is required before fire rotation?

Or Dying Curse. Use either of them to replace your 2nd trinket and your hit problem will pretty much be solved.
You mean cloak of the dying. neck piece of dying Curse is Heroic (25) I am just trying to be ready for 10 men naxx

I have to check AH for Dying Curse, I was only setting a goal for 10 men which drops Cloak of the dying.
I also dont know the capped dps for 25men naxxramus or else I would've started collecting gears and running it long time ago.
I can set goals for living flame and / or dying curse and look Auctions for it..

Edit BTW: Razerscale drops living flame in heroic run of Ulduar. I am not even close to capping the dps for it.

actually, spirit will do more for your in-combat mana regen as well. and it gives you spell power, giving you more "bang for your buck"... trust me, 9spell power/8spi is a better combo.

1600 is indeed pretty good for 10 mans, but i think you misunderstood my point. Re-enchant your gloves for hit rating, and put the enchant on your weapon, and you will gain overall hit rating AND spell power... it's a win-win situation.

RAWR.
It's primarily because Molten Armor (for him) will only offer an additional 2.1% crit chance (although it will be on all his spells) vs 5% crit chance for Fireball to his main nuke.
The math behind it I don't know exactly, but the theory / logic behind it I do understand.
fair enough... i don't have rawr on this computer so i can't plug him into it to see for sure which would legitimately be a higher dps.. but i would think that the molten armor would still be higher because, as you said, the extra crit chance is on all of his spells (living bomb included, which is usually the 2nd or 3rd highest form of damage), not just fireball.
