dread, i haven't done 25 man ulduar, only 10 mans. after looking at my gear earlier, my haste is around 400 unbuffed (so i think that's 14% before netherwind presence and iv and stuff like that). With raid buffs i'm sitting somewhere around 20-21k mana depending. i'm not sure what my mp5 while casting is, but i'm sure it's not 600, so yes i may be less geared than you, but you don't need 25 man ulduar gear to do 25 man ulduar.. that's counter productive. anyway i want to apologize for sounding like a jackass.. i was having a bad night.
as far as putting 25 mans together.. it's not that we're fail at putting 25 mans together, but we're not a huge guild with 500 people so we don't always have the pick of the litter to make the best choices we have for our groups. we have to go with what we have by who signs up, and who actually shows up when they say they will. We are heavy on casters and we have several priests, but most of them are needed to heal and the others are undergeared. most of our pallies are either tanks or healers.. i think we have two hunters and one of them is on at odd times. Besides, correct me if i'm wrong, isn't it only one spec of hunters that gives replenishment? (i could be wrong, i know very little about them)
definatly feel you with mana management in 10 mans - its a different kettle of fish, you dont get as many of the buffs you need usually, making it tougher.
survivial hunters are the ones with replenishment and your raiding huntards should be survival anyway as it is the top dmg spec atm, if they arent have a word with em imo ( i do - damn huntards always need to be told what to do )
like i said, i don't know much of anything about hunters, so i don't presume to tell them how to play their class. lol. we did our first completely in-guild ulduar 10 last night.. (no pugs FTW).. and we had.. /gasp.. a ret pallie AND a survival hunter. unfortunatly, we didn't finish the run due to starting late and running well past 2am, but we downed... flame levi (hard mode), razorscale, XT, kologrim, and Auriya.. We skipped Ignis with the intent of coming back to him later.. (I think our RL was thoroughly &*!@ed at Hodir from last week.. we had a LOT of issues with him and just couldn't end up downing him in the end.. had a lot to do with our dps, but then with pugs... /shrug)... the really cool bit of it was that for as many people had never done some of these fights, we only wiped... i think twice.. We wiped on Kologrim once just because of some bad luck between adds and an unfortunate healer DC, and we wiped on flame levi, but i'm not entirely sure how it happened..... the reason it took so long was a couple random DCs and having to explain every boss to half of the raid.
anyway.. i'm not trying to brag (especially cause i know most of you have done most of ulduar on hard mode and such), but this is a big deal for me.. most of my raid progression up to this point has been a mish-mash of guildies and pugs, or sometimes even pure pugs.. this was my first pure guild run where we actually got anywhere and it was a damn good feeling.

i think it is great that we can switch between 3 viable raid specs atm, in tbc it was fire or um fire, yeah,
we did iron council with the runemaster guy left last up on thursday, - the one that makes a summoning portal with adds that charge towards people and blow up, i specced deep frost to spam blizzard on the portals to slow the adds and have the other mages and locks/hunters and boomkin aoe the heck out of em, with the imp slow from blizz made that encounter truly easy mode.
it is fantastcic tho that mages have option for us to smash dps and alter our play styles for what individuals prefer/succeed at, makes for a lot more fun raiding :)
grats achloryn on your run - sounds like a fun night and i know getting rid of the pugs and focussing on the guild run is very satisfiying - hope in continues for you
thanks, i appreciate it.. wish i was at home now finishing up/continuing on that run right now instead of working... but alas, IRL comes first.
Anyway, i always thought that raiding frost in TBC was perfectly acceptable, and even quite standard really. I knew very few mages who were fire at the time, but then again i never made it to end game content... and i never read these forums at the time. lol.
I personally would love it if they made frost a viable, high DPS raid spec again in LK, as the new talents they've put in have made it a LOT of fun to play. my offspec is pvp frost, and i will be sure to keep in mind what you said about iron council for when i get a chance to do that fight...
