The points themselves are just for you to compare against other people. They're not currency of any sort.

Spend
time
to get achievement points that you purchase items for... This is familiar isn't it..?
There's just one problem that I see with it: The fact that achievements can't be done multiple times. Meaning, if you spend your achievement points, how would you compensate for the loss?
Yes, you might say something like "Do other achievements," but eventually you're going to run out.
For now, achievement points, like the ones on
Whose Line is It Anyway?
, don't really matter. They're just for astethic purposes.

i also think that blizz stated the points will be used for something in the future although i think it may be a unconfirmed rumor but for now the points are just for bragging rights

What's there to think about? We KNOW what they're for: nothing tangible. They're just there to given a numerical value to your achievements. What's there to discuss?

Blizzard has stated that there intent is for achievement points to be usable at some point in the future. Most likely IMO for account binding heirloom stuff or things you will no outlevel (mounts, pets, titles). I don't expect that to happen anytime soon though.
As of right now, achievements are for e-peen comparisons only.

I think that may be old info DM considering achivements already grant mounts pets and titles, but not the points themselves (which is what the OP is asking about)

So then the OP should say something like "What do you think the will be used for in the future?" and not "What do you think they are used for?". That's pretty misleading.

how could you ever ever run out of achievments...
no affence
Well, I kind of see your point. Blizzard has been adding in achievements the last few patches, and probably very few people have managed to completely nearly every achievement.
Still, there are only so many points you can compensate after spending them. That's why I don't see in a point in using Achievement Points as currency.
