I was out in Hellfire yesterday, lvling my ret pally at lvl 60. I was invited to a grp for ramps and was asked to heal. I need the polearm so I said sure (even though I have never healed before, but I had been gathering outlands spell power green plate and researching pally healing) and went and respecced.
I did fairly well I guess. Only one wipe. But my question is, when I respecced back to ret, I healed myself for more and noticed my spell power and spell crit were way higher in my crappy healing gear and ret specced. So if need to heal again, should I even bother respeccing?
PS. I haven't bought dual spec yet, still farming gold on my main for it.

What spec were you using when healing?
You get 8% crit to all heals in ret. You get 5% crit to all heals and 6% crit to HS/HL in holy.
At your level the crit in your ret spec doesnt do anything for you for that matter since you dont have illumination in your ret spec (and you shouldnt either).
The reason to getting bigger heals in your ret spec could be because your AP is also converted to SP.
In holy your int is converted to SP and it's not hard to get more AP than Int.
As to wether you should respecc or not kinda depends on what group you get. If you have a proper tank you could do fine with a ret specc. If you dont you might need the extra longivity, HPS, bacon etc.. from holy

This
is what I used to heal. Our tank was good, and our DPS were a little bit higher lvl so we did pretty well. I did still have a bit of ret gear on, with pure caster stat gear and some of the "mixed" gear you get in outlands so I still had a ton of AP for Sheathe of Light.
