Is there some sort of haste limit?

I have a lot of haste on my affliction warlock, and was wondering if there was some sort of limit on how much it can speed up my spells, or at least some sort of diminishing returns like with a tank's defense rating.

There is a hard cap, and that's reaching the global cooldown with every spell, but you're not even going to get close to it no matter how much you stack your haste, because it's virtually impossible even with all gems and all enchants, and haste on every item.
Haste is a good stat, but you should not neglect spell power for it. Just keep a healthy balance with haste and spell power, and grab something with crit on it every once in a while, if it's got good spell power on it.

Thanks, but doesn't haste also reduce the global cooldown?

You can only decrease your GCD to 1 second, and if you have spells in your rotation that are casting faster than that when they shouldn't be, you have too much haste because you're actually standing their doing nothing while you wait for the GCD.
Ah, thank you kindly sir.

hehe, me and gore know that resto druids have to think about the haste cap too ^_^
basically nobody has to worry about the haste cap itself, getting ~1600 haste isn't an option, BUT everyone has to take into account heroism/bloodlust and warlocks have backdraft/eradication to take into account.
a further consideration, though, is that even if you get your instants down to 1 second you can still get more haste to reduce the cast time of longer cast spells like shadow bolt. so, even though we say haste has 'hard cap' at 50%, it's actually just the point after which you will get less bang for your buck. which answers another questions from further up. haste is linear and does not have diminishing returns until you reach that cap after that it's only useful on longer cast spells so it's returns are effectively diminished at that point onwards.

yeah, well the hardest bit was pinning down exactly what GotEM
does
^_^
it was interesting reading the further topic you made regarding how it stacks up with totems and pally buffs but i was deep in the deathknight joojoo at the time and didn't have my druid head on.

you could reduce and untalented SF from 6 seconds right down to 1 second.
...it would, however, take ~16,395 haste ^_^

you could but you couldn't cast anything else until the full second is up so i think we could call it a hard cap of sorts ^^

fractionally off topic, backdraft is one of the only spells/abilities/talents in the game that reduces the GCD beneath 1 sec. If you cast a .7 second immo with a backdraft proc, it actually reduces the GCD to .7 seconds. Very cool.
edit # 2, its not .7 seconds that backdraft reduces the GCD to, its .77. 1/1.3 = 0.77. My bad.
edit ------- in theory you could cast three soulfires in 2.1 (edit # 2, its actually 2.31 seconds) seconds with enough haste. Never going to happen but boy I'd love slapping that on a zerking warrior in AB :P

ah yeah, good point. we kicked up such a fuss about lost backdraft charges on immo that they had to put that in... and now we all use the glyph anyway ^^
shhh, nobody tell blizz.
