Visual Basic is a good start, does your school offer any classes on it?

I learnt HTML, PHP, C++, Python, etc. by just looking at scripts.
For HTML and PHP, I would suggest looking at PHPFreaks. It's a good spot to ask questions.

I have learned HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, Java, Lua and C++ without any classes. Just use the countless references and tutorials on the interwebs. And like Blackboy0 said, looking at others' scripts is a nice way to learn.

I started off with PHP. If you learn with a sceptic eye on things, i think it's a good start. It will reward you with results you can actually use very soon, whereas with other languages you may need to study way more until you can actually do something useful.
Most teachers suggest Java for starters, but i don't think it's a good start.
I agree with Maurice. Python is very powerful, it can be used in almost any fields, it's playful, and Google swears by it. And Google can't be wrong, can they?
