My
Prot Paladin PvP
build is mostly focused on offensive utility rather than all out defense, which is why I've opted out of some of the physical mitigation talents (though still picked up the mitigation talents that will reduce all and just magical incoming damage) and opted for mana efficiency, and crit.
Gear wise, I use a mixture of Block Value PvE gear for harder ShoR crits, and Retribution Paladin PvP gear, for additional crit, strength, resilience and stamina (I'm aware PvE tank stuff generally has more stamina, but there's still a hefty chunk of it on PvP gear, and I'm getting resilience with it. Win win.)
Other than burst, I also try to safeguard my Allies, throwing around Hands of Sacrifice, and Protection, and popping my Divine Sacrifice while under the effects of Divine Shield or Divine Protection.
This is mostly a BG spec, I don't arena with this build. Thoughts?

I'm not sure if I have anything constructive to add, but I've always wanted to try something like this. You'll have to update this thread and let us know how it's working for you.

Imo crusade> sanctity of battle, 6% dmg>3% crit, also change glyph of BoK to glyph of LoH, apart from that its looking good :)

So after about an hours PvP, with about 400 resilience, 26k HP, 2400 attack power, ect, I've had lots of fun. Mana is a problem but not as big a problem as it used to be, though its still a challenge to remain un-OOMed.
There is one thing that suprises me with this build though..
I OWN most ranged classes. Any of the ones that rely on kiting to stay away from me. That includes Mages (ANY spec), and hunters (ANY spec.)
Funnily enough, the classes i'm having most difficulty with are Ret paladins, enhancement shamans, and healers (Shamans seem most susceptible to my burst though.)
I'll keep you all posted.

I'm not surprised your bashing hunters around the park, but i am about the mages part, either your fighting shoddy mages or your doing extrordinarily well...
Enha shammies are pretty much an outlasting thing, which should eb easy as pie for you.. they normally try to kite you around as opposed to getting smashed about.. and we all know enha shammies can't kite ;P - do they generally do what they try and do with every opponent and burst you down asap? should be a walk in teh park if thats the case...
Healers are a pain just because you lack real burst, hell eveen ret pallies struggle to get em down.
P.S. WTB a pvp prot pallie set, Hopefully designed similar to the ret set but with more emphasis on SBV and a pair of gloves which would actually help something like ShotR 5% damage or something, not an unreasonable request imo....

Yeah, I've adopted my strategy for enhancement shammies. I just get a little bit more offensive, rather than just hanging about and letting them beat themselves dead. Works pretty good, most of them try to run away, but HOOO JUDGEMENT OF JUSTICE SMACK SMACK GOOD DOGGIE UR DED M8.
Etc. :P
And about the mages.. I'm still consistantly pwning them. I met some ones who i -know- are good, as I've seen them on my battlegroup before. But I'm just.. owning them. Its crazy.
EDIT: Yeah, a PvP prot set would be sweet. Strength rings and necks too. AP is rubbish :P
EDIT2: My gear is incoming, shortly. Its not "perfect" but its what I got.

dude, to be pvping with sucess in that gear is pretty epic!
Quick couple of things;
- You already pointed out you dropped the avoidance talents when you pvp "is why I've opted out of some of the physical mitigation talents ", so as soon as ye can, swap out the pure def gear for more dps orientated stuff
- get the T7 2pieve bonus, it absolutely rocks to get 10% extra dmg on HotR
- Only wear the tanky items which give SBV > normal dps gear (of eqivable-ish ilevel)
- Get new tank legs from VH Hc ;P (or get the dps ones -which have a huge chunk of hit- from UK Hc)
- Run VH Hc for
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=37872
instead of your flow of knowledge (the resi is nice but proc is nigh on useless), 440 BV on demand gives epic ShotR crits when combind with an LoO (
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40707
) proc. (with wings you can easily get upwards of 10K) (and its 5% ish block, can't turn down mitigation when it comes free on a trink like that )
And keep up the good work!
Edit: spelling

Sorry to be the bucket of cold water, but success in BG pvp isn't all that it's rated to be (which it isn't even, really). I go through lvl 80 BGs in my 78 Savage Saronite gear and still end up in the top 5 damage done / honor gained categories pretty easily as a cookie cutter Ret pally. In fact, I do much the same in my tanking gear as a cookie cutter PvE Prot speccing into Ret for parry and crits. So it's moreso about the quality of the opposition than anything else, I think.
If you're running out of mana, then it's because you're not getting to the next battle quickly enough, and/or you're not noticing that fact. DP should be on almost constantly - you shouldn't ever have a problem with mana.
Have fun with Warsong Gulch - there isn't much that's harder to take down than a Prot pally flag carrier!

@Squishalot, as you say its about the quality of your opposition, and the new challenge pvp as prot actually presents. GJ on coming top 5 with sub-par gear but which battlegroup are you in? doesn't sound very competitive to me... whilst coming top 5 requires more common sense alot of the time, if you're doing it consistently with level 78 gear then there must be something wrong with the people you're up against tbh. No discredit to you, but the gear gap is just too great.
@Atremini,
- Having DP up at the start of the fight is a better idea, since 3.01 DP refreshes itself with every hit, and unless for some absurd reason your opponent manages to keep you out of melee range for 15 seconds it won't drop. Just hit it when you need it or when you think you can "chain" through enemies.
- not done any real testing with reckoning but as it now procs off any damaging attack as opposed to just melee it may be worth it, but is it better than crusade for damage? or is it used purely for the Hp/mana retuns with SoL/SoW? it seems to be a bit of a more defensive way to play....
- Wondering if someone could work out a decent gear set for this type of play, obv with a tanky type set for FC'ing when you need to, but as a purely offensive dps'er i wonder what mix would be best. SBV seems to be popular, but wonder how that works out against the ret PvP gear....
- going for the 2piece holy for the 50 resi may net you 50 resi, but you do lose out on two pieces worth of gear essentially... as they aren't designed towards what you are trying to achieve.
Last thing (and end of wall o' text) has anyone tried and tested this in an arena setting? what would people advise as a partner? someone equally resiliant such as another prot spec perosn as they aren't likely to want to target you realistically... or something else?

Toughness and Devo aura really dont do much for you. The casters are the ones that you will have problems with. So you will most likely want to use a resist aura like frost or shadow. You get blessing of freedom and cleanse for most snares and your armor will be fine without Toughness and imp Devo aura.

6% healing does alot in PvP

*cant believe she forgot to post her weapon, shield and libram*
Weapon:
Red Sword of Courage
Shield:
Titansteel Shield Wall
Libram:
Libram of Obstruction
Thanks for all the constructive criticism and advice. Going to try out some mow today!
As for getting the T7 and such, I dont really PvE that much. The gear I have is gear I saved whilst running heroics, as a healer, gearing up. I nabbed some offspec gear. (oh, and the few raids I ran, and spare Emblems. And.. the ring I bought because I needed a tank ring. xD)

Yes I know what it does but healing is not something you do very often or get done to you in a BG. Unless its a premade. Even then you will find that even 6% extra healing wont matter, your either goin to outlast them with superior HP/stun control or your goin to get ganked and no amount of heals can save you.
Now in arena I would defin take those talents.
Then i honestly have to say i feel sorry for you.
In my battlegroup there is usually 1-3 healers doing 1 mil healing in AB/WSG/EotS.
And as alliance we lose 8/10 matches.
So if 6% healing wont matter.
Than the 5% from divinity wont matter either.
And 6% dmg reduction from imp RF
or 3% dmg reduction from BoSanc
6% extra stam from Combat Expertise is worthless.
6% spell dmg reduction from Guarded by the light, completely moronic.
Shield of the templar another wasted talent because it's only 3% damage reduction.
Hey why dont we just go with a 0/0/0 spec since talents wont matter only your gear does!

I apologize for being rude but to me it was looking like it was gonna end in "If 6% here doesnt matter then 6% here wont matter etc....."
My point being nothing is much when you look at particular cases. 6% healing from a 5k Holy shock aint that much.
But when it comes down to 12 holy shocks over a 1 minute fight those 6% quickly adds up.
