Even your mage tier gear has spirit on it. I'm not super familiar with the mage class, but it must be there for a reason.
8 items with Spell Power, no MP5, no spirit
. 2 Weapons, 2 rings, neck, chest, trinket, and cloak.
29 items with Spell Power, no Mp5
. 3 necks, 2 cloaks, 2 daggers, 1 sword, 1 offhand, 4 rings, 2 staffs, 1 trinket, 1 wand, and 12 other cloth normal slot items.
Those lists aren't counting the tier pieces.

Pretty much this. However if you see something with mp5 or spirit and it's better than what you've got, I'd take it. Better than getting sharded. I'd rather someone take something for their offspec even. I hate seeing loot go to waste.

Not much point assigning lables to items anymore, like healing- or caster gear. Determine if the individual item is beneficial to you or not. That's what it usually comes down to in the end.
I'll somewhat agree, but it can cause issues in the early raid environment when a warlock or mage may want an item with MP5 on it "because it's an upgrade." If there isn't a healer that needs it, then by all means the DPS class should take it. However, an item with MP5 on it is still "Healer Gear" and should go to a healer first.
So like it's already been said, if it has hit on it then it is DPS Gear, if it has MP5 on it then it is Healer Gear. Barring those two, it is pretty fair game among all casters.

mp5 is a worthless stat for healers these days anyways. In every case I can remember, either int or spirit is better.

Worthless and worth less are two different terms. MP5 isn't worthless, it just worth less than other possible stats. That fact doesn't negate the fact that MP5 items are still healer items.
