noyb even in pve questing most are happy to just do the quest. One of my old quild people was a ret pally starting in ol, she had hell killing anything in 2.3. Just as you said no rotation, no planning, just hit buttons and wait. I made 3 levels as prot to her one.
I know at about 67 on my rogue I was shocked to see that I was only doing ~280 dps. WTF hey wait a minute I do all quest and succeed very well...280?
OK level 70 with S2 swords (last sept) I did a whopping 410. I was sooooo HUH
I kept playing my ret pally doing 1100 and so to hell with a looser rogue. Have not played him since. Played pally and a dk to 80 and the rogue, priest and shaman are still at 70-71...why? 500 dps thats why.
What is surprising is that the priest is most dps at close to 600 shadow.

When I dinged 80 on my elemental shaman, I was able to do about 2.2k DPS in 25man Vault on the same day that I hit 80; I pulled around 1.6k in heroics. Now that I've gotten quite a few upgrades, including a few epics I can do between 2.4-2.7k DPS overall in heroics. On a simple boss fight where all I have to do is go all out on DPS, I've been able to get well over 3k with heroism.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to DPS in a raid for a while because the shortage of healers on my server has forced me to raid as resto, but it cracks me up when people doing less than 2k in a raid think they are hot %^&$. I've had people like that leave groups after one wipe, because "they are too good to waste time with nubs." ell - oh - ell

Funny part is, at level 72 my enhance shammy in a a 5 man was hitting 1.6k on bosses even pushing at 1.7k using only northrend blues and greens and BoAs shoulders. Its sad how bad some people really can be at dpsing. When people dps with just blues on and consider it as an excuse to have below 2k dps in a 25 man raid, its just completely pathetic and bull.
I am happy to say I am one who kicks people relentlessly if the authority is given if the dps is below 2k without any hesitation. Hell even at 2.5k I would be tempted to kick someone from a raid if they can't cap above even that. Raid environments give so many buffs that really there is no excuse to not hit 3k dps specially if you have a decent amount of epics.
Again, I would like to brag and say I am a wow pro when it comes to playing. I do understand the way behind playing my class and when it comes to my feral druid I am very talented at doing dps. On a training dummy testing my dps with another feral druid, I actually did 10% more dps then him during a 15 minute dps test. The druid had better gear then me for dpsing yet i was able to out preform him due to my knowledge of dpsing as feral and how to keep up my dps.
None the less even in the short trial myself and the other druid with good gear without any buffs up were able to do roughly 3.5-4k dps on a test dummy. That leave no excuse for people even with worse gear to hit below 2k dps ever. As long as you practice your class and learn how to play smart (or atleast decent) you can easily get over the 2k cap in a group

Some people just like to fail. I dont understand how they manage to do it but some people prefer sucking. Like level 80s who have been 80 for a while and have 0 achievements for any Northrend dungeon or raid. If you arent going to play then whats the point of even logging in. I have been in groups where Im at 3k DPS and the other 2 DPSers arent even breaking 1500. You seriously have to try to suck that hard.
