I'm looking at a new type build for Frost tanking using
http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=49509
to gain RP so that I can do way more
http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=55268
, especially in conjunction with
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=43543
. Has anyone tried this yet? It seems like it would be a HUGE dps/threat increase.
Basically, means your FSs are only 32 RP, and when tanking, you should be gaining 15 RP every 10 seconds from SoB, plus whatever other rune abilities are generating it. Basically, you should be getting a FS every 10 seconds, or even more than that. It seems like an incredible buff to frost tanking (and even frost leveling).

It is possible, but you may want to drop 1-2 points from Scent of Blood. That's a lot more rp generation then a tank would really need. Especially as Frost since they have the highest rp generation between the 3 trees.
how is that? as long as you can spend it in time i'd say it isn't to much rp.
on top of that, there isn't much else to put the points in assuming your
build
is like most other frost tanks
it's between: sob, 3%crit, rune tap, DRM, morbidity, virulence and epidemic or a combination of them.
sob as long as you can spend the rp fast enough so you don't cap out on it it's a great talent. though if your gear isn't good enough yet so you can't spend all the rp on fs an rs before next rotation starts it's probably better to put less talents in it or skip it.
3%crit is nice aswell, though i'm not a real fan for crit as tank and i crit enough already as it is with all the km-procs.
rune tap it's nice, it isn't for me though, but if you find yourself using it and it saves you then all the power to you?
DRM gives you flexibility always nice, but i find myself managing just fine without it.
morbidity more a convenience then a nessecity. i don't use it while tanking bosses, and can manage with a 30 sec cd and slightly less dmg on trash.
virulence i find i miss rather few skills on bosses while melee hit capped, dranae in raid and a 3% hit debuff on boss.
epidemic might be usefull depending on your rotation, but for my rotation their is no need for it.

It looks fine, but you don't tell me what you are using the RP for, which is the whole point of taking SoB. What do you dump RP on? Have you noticed a threat increase from your RP dump when you go back to review WWS breakdowns?
Interesting thoughts on capping yourself on RP, which could or could not be a problem. I suppose one could think about taking RP Mastery in frost, or just do a better job at spending RP in between Rune use.
Interesting anyway. I'll look into it more myself, but if anyone else has any thoughts or experiences, I'd love to hear more.

Sorry I tend to assume things of people...
But I dump it on RS/FS, and IBF/AMS when appropriate
Use the macro
#showtooltip SKILL
/cast SKILL
/cast !Rune Strike
on all your moves, RS should keep it at a mediocre amount, FS on KM at any time during the rotation, or during any "CD downtime"

Yeah I get that, I guess what I'm wondering is with SoB, how many more RS and/or FS are you getting in? Have you seen a larger chunck of dmg or threat coming from one or the other, or both? That's what I'm driving at; trying to get an idea of how much those 3 talent points in SoB are actually doing for you. Even a qualitative statement of "My threat seems way better" or "my dps has gone up quite a bit since I took SoB" would be great too. :D And btw, ty for sharing, I really appreciate it.

Its hard to quantify, I dont really think my TPS has increased heavily because of SOB alone but it is nice having it, at the end of a short instance I tend to make around 400-600 RP from 2 ranks in SOB, but Priest's Rapture usually makes me about 20% more RP ex 500-700 RP
I generally have a comfortable amount of RP because of SOB, I can generally say my RS costs 5 less because of SOB and thats nice I think

I would like to ask why you didn't mention
Ravenous Dead
? 3% extra strength seems to be the best talent available for those 3 left over talent points.
overlooked it, seems more like a dps talent though since tanks don't really stack strenght. but it is indeed a viable alternative.

Thinking about the relative value of a talent point, 1% more strength per TP isn't a good return on investment (in a build with no permanent ghoul). If I have 1000 strength as a tank (which is quite a lot), that's 10 strength per point. 20 AP, 2.5 parry rating.
If you had 2 weapons that looked like this:
2h Sword, 3.5 speed, 150 DPS, +20 Strength
2h Sword, 3.5 speed, 150 DPS, +10 Strength, 46 crit rating.
Which would you take? That's the difference between putting a point into Dark Conviction and a point in Ravenous Dead (when you have no ghoul). Ravenous Dead shouldn't be an option here.
