Just disable your AV until the upload is complete and then turn it back on. Only takes a few seconds, it isn't a big deal.

Before you try this, take note of this. I got my account hacked last night.
Haven't installed anything else. Have Win 7 with only the admin account with install rights and I don't use it due to Win 7 popping up a admin box.
Not saying it's WoWHead's fault but AVG was quiet, Spybot found nothing and running Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware right now with no hits so far.

Unless you're behind a firewall, information can always leak out.

I have been having exactly the same upload issues.
The problems started immediately after I upgraded AVG 7 to AVG 8.5.
I am happy to report:
AVG ver 8.5.287 Solution found
Solution Walk-through:
Right-click the AVG systray icon (bottom right corner by the clock)
Click: "Open AVG User Interface"
Right-click: "Link scanner"
Click: "Open"
Under the heading: "Settings", all 3 check boxes will be checked ("proper" default install)
Change the check boxes to the following settings:
Enable AVG Search-shield (need web browser restart)
Enable AVG Active Surf-shield
Enable reporting of detected threats to AVG
Click: "Save Changes"
Close the AVG User interface window
Click back to this page and copy the URL (for later use, report success, fail, etc)
Close all browser windows
Open the Wowhead Client and upload your dataZ :D
... You're welcome ;) (in advance)
Open the web browser of your choice
Paste the URL to bring you back to this page
Please let me know if this helped you ;)
Posting your info here will help the devs find a solution to the problem.
Detailed "Fix" steps will help them replicate the issue/solution.
Don't be shy, I'm sure they want to help, they just need
us
to give them
Good DataZ
to point them in the right direction.
Thanks, Good hunting, and glad to help folks :)

I am having this problem as well.
I used to use Windows XP SP2, but over the weekend I've upgraded to Windows 7 x64. I kept all of my WoW info (addons, /wtf folder, etc) but I redowlnoaded the wowhead client from the website. I installed it, put in my info, went to upload and it stops after reaching 2% of 1.1MB, and then sits there forever. Mayhaps the using of 'old' data from another OS, and attempting to upload that data with different 'owners' (file permission owner) is causing this problem? In any difference, just wanted to report this :)
EDIT: The above solution fix via AVG fixed this problem for me. Thanks for that! :) Stupid AVG, grrrr.

This worked for me. Thank you for letting me upload my last few months of dataz..
:D
Hi all,
This solution didnt do it for me. So instead of copying these settings for only the link scanner, i also used them for the surf shield AVG has. After that, upload worked like a charm, so thanks for getting me on the right path!

Any update from the developers about what the conflict with AVG might be? I'd like to use the client without having to manually dig into the AVG settings every time.

Seriously. The solution is to disable my Antivirus (AVG)?
Sorry Wowhead, I love the site but I'm not willing to do this constantly to help you out. It shouldn't be a problem but if you forget to renable the antivirus you're just asking for trouble. Until this is fixed I won't be uploading further data, and I recommend others to avoid doing this. Wowhead should be able to be avoid getting blocked by AVG.
It's not disabling your antivirus. It's disabling a portion of AVG's overprotectiveness. You should also note that people with other antivirus programs, Symantec/Mcafee, aren't having this problem. It's only AVG. Could easily fix the problem by actually paying for an antivirus program, rather than piggybacking off of a free anti-virus program.
Wowhead isn't the problem. It's AVG.
