Err, why would they remake a remake?
Though, this is Nintendo we're talking about.

He means Fire Red and Leaf Green are remakes already, why would they do them a third time?

Ah yes. Sylveon.

And even though I'm behind the times, I picked up Pokemon Conquest today; after all, if you can get it for 10 bucks, might as well eh?

It's quite fun, Adam.
I'm not sure if people would like X/Y spoilers from the latest discussions around here, but there seem to be a lot of fun tidbits. I'll spoiler tag this for now.
From the changes announced, though most people are on about a lot of stuff, I'm mostly into the mechanic changes. The 5v1 Horde battles look amazing, and if it's imposible to flee, holy hell, Nuzlockers just got the challenge of their lives. Though people might say nuzlocke is hard, I never found that to be true; I simply think nuzlocke challenges are entirelly about patience and how much you are willing to grind, especially once you do your first (sorta risky) 3-4 levels. However, forced 5v1s? That's SURELY going to be a true challenge, if they're actually as randomized as common battles (obviously not 50/50), since hordes probably provide ludicrous XP). Hell, since nuzlocke is a fan mode anyway, people might just stick to a rule avoiding runing from battles. I'm looking forward to the Fairy type and the tactical advantages. Yay immunities, more free switch-ins!

Well I posted a video in the General Video Game thread because I didn't really remember about this thread. And I saw the the horde feature. We also talked a little about the new Fairy type.
But it could be a challenge for Nuzlocke. I honestly haven't tried doing them, but if I can find my Heart Gold I might give it a try. If they are all of the same level for that route, it can be quite the challenge. But if they're maybe a few levels under that route it might not be that bad. Or it might just be route specific. It could be an incentive to carry a Pokemon with a area attack, like Rock Slide or Surf.

I never found nuzlockes to be my cup of tea, but i do like to watch playthroughs.
Personally, competitive play is more up my alley.
Along with trying to catch as many pokemons as possible in my games.

I know I fried my Sapphire game because I played it so much. I almost completed the regional dex on there, but I stopped playing it years ago.
But I like the in-game a lot more. After beating it on Black 2 I went and beat Black Tower and played a lot of the Battle Subway. But I probably don't have the amount of hours that competitive players have, knowing how much work they put into getting the right IV/EV and nature.

I actually play on a simulator.
I'm way too lazy to do all that ingame.

Well you can't really play competitively on an emulator

Team Rocket Challenge
Saw it on a Let's Play of the two guys playing it on a PokeMMO. Seems like an interesting concept.

Horde battles? What the *!@#? I've been waiting for that since gen 3.

Esentially, nuzlocke and derivaties are the only way anyone who only plays a single player mode to have an actual challenge. Particularly ludicrous in the first two regions; Gen 1 could be beaten by only levelling a single pokemon through the entire game with sheer brute forcing (I did so with a Pidgeot), there are something like ~10-15 rare candies on the way through, and powerlevelling only 1 poke will net you, after rare candies, a lvl70+ beast). (Yes, there were Bruno's Onixes, but their speed and special were so pathetic that even a pokemon around level 30-40 could 1shot them with Surf... I usually trained Wartortles in victory road (so lvl 16 VS lvl 40+) for the easy XP you'd rack up from insta-win Geodudes and Onixes, switching in for Golbats). I don't remember how I handled Aerodactyl though... I'm guessing Articuno's quadra weakness STAB Ice Beam?.
Gold has a little more overall balance, but the league's levels are pathetic, with 50 being the highest.
Self imposed challenges really are the only thing stopping you from a tactical borefest once you get access to legendaries or grind for even the smallest of times. Even if you prohibit yourself from grinding, X items can easilly pull you through the harder challenges, with poeple pulling League victories with sub-lvl 50 teams.
(and a gripe I never understood with the AI on Gold... WHY THE HELL DID KOGA SEND _FORRETRESS_ AGAINST MY FIRE-TYPE AFTER I KNOCKED OUT THE FIRST ONE? "Hey, here's a free kill!"? The AI was actually not suuuuuper bad at using type advantages as far as I remember, but koga's was just a really awkward moment to witness xD)

I never really used a legendary unless it was there for filler. After reading some things I noticed that people tend to agree on using just 3-4 pokemon and leveling them really well throughout the game. And after doing that I was able to beat the E4 on my Black 2 playthrough without any trouble. I haven't beaten them on my original Black game, mainly because I can't find it anywhere to play it.
But the AI was predictable. And you could almost always tell what they were going to do. But in Subway Battles the AI is completely different. That is where I like to spend most of my time. In HeartGold I spent a lot of time in the Battle Factory. I love the concept in there, picking 3 pokemon you never used before and figuring out a strategy for using them.
Wish they added that type of battle into the Subway system. Here's hoping they add it to X/Y.

If i use a legendary, it's likely a Dragon type, as dragon is probably my favorite type.
The rare exceptions being Deoxys and Mewtwo.
Competitively, i'll use whatever fits the team i'm using/making at the time.
And i hope they add a Battle Frontier style place to X/Y. I enjoyed it in HeartGold/Soulsilver/Platinum, and was kinda sad it wasn't in Gen V at all.
