So, my eye still isn't fixed, and now my family are starting to irritate me.
The patch that I was given last Tuesday in surgery has started leaking because the glue used to apply the patch had started to dissolve. So, yesterday, I went back to the hospital and had more glue put in the hole to hopefully seal it. The thought was that the glue may not have mixed properly on that side and therefore might just need patching up -- but the more worrying hypothesis is that my eye is so inflamed that it is causing the glue to dissolve. I'm going back there on Monday to find out if this procedure has been successful.
If it hasn't been successful, a double patch will have to be applied, and if that doesn't work then, regardless of the high risk of rejection, I'll have to have a cornea transplant.
All of this is incentive enough to hope that the re-glueing has worked, without the added incentive of my family's new interference.
I received a call first from my dad, and then from my sister, both saying (first with no arguments and then from some arguments ) that I should ask for my case to be transferred to Cambridge and to go and stay with my dad until the situation is resolved. The arguments from my sister were told to me in this order:
1 a. It's inconvenient for Dad to be travelling the distance from Cambridge to Exeter whenever I need to go down to Torbay hospital. (Torbay is roughly a 40-minute drive; Exeter to Cambridge is roughly 4 hours.)
This I responded to by saying that while I understand the inconvenience, it isn't like I've actually asked Dad to come down this way and stay with me, and transport me to and from the hospital. I have the capacity to get down to Torbay through other means (friends, work, etc.), as I demonstrated the first time I had to go down there, and I'm quite happy to use these avenues.
1 b. My family are uncomfortable having me so far away from everyone else and being left to deal with this "on my own".
To which I responded that I am not on my own -- I have my housemates and friends looking after me, and I have work supporting me with anything I need.
She THEN, AFTER this weak argument that had no real backing, followed it up with a much stronger argument:
2. One of her husband's friends is an ophthalmologist at Birmingham, and in his opinion Torbay is a smaller hospital that sees far fewer cases such as mine annually. I would therefore be better suited to going to a hospital that sees "ten times the patients on a weekly basis that Torbay sees annually". This friend also said that there is "another type of patch" that should be tried.
This, I can't really argue with ... Except ... why was this argument not raised first, exactly? My sister couldn't even give me the name of this patch, "because I'm not an ophthalmologist and I don't understand it". Well, fine, but wouldn't you note down the name of an alternative treatment so that the patient could ask the doctor they're currently seeing whether such a treatment would be viable?
She also stated during Reason 2, " would be happy to see you, but he's in Birmingham so it would be difficult to get to." So, they want me to move away from my home to a larger hospital -- but where there has been no actual guarantee of seeing a
specialist
, but just the guarantee that there is more
general experience
available -- but they
won't
arrange for me to see the guy who has a specific alternative solution to my problem?
I strongly doubt reason 2 as legitimate.

Oh, also, my mother is taking a trip down today to see me, when she said she was going to see me next weekend, not this weekend. Again, fine, but she told me this when she was already half-way here.
I do wonder if I actually get a say in how I get treated

Ugh :S day 2 of skyrim downloading, barely at 600 Mb T_T this is gonna take a while........ AND THE VICE IS REALLY KILLING ME. Ugh I need some wow to kill time, but that isn't available either yet :S
