A critical study of Elura's genre-bending poem "Herp derp"
Let us commence a journey into the much-traveled topic of Herp derp's unendurable attempts to worsen an already unstable situation. The nitty-gritty of what I'm about to write is this: One could truthfully say that its clueless calumnies are based on a jungle mentality of mistrust, betrayal, and disloyalty. But saying that would miss the real point, which is that it's best to ignore most of the quotes that it so frequently cites. Herp derp takes quotes out of context; uses misleading, irrelevant, and out-of-date quotes; and presents quotes from legitimate authorities used misleadingly to support contentions that they did not intend and that are not true. In short, it's trapped in a vicious cycle. The more opposition to its propositions it faces, the more revolting it becomes. The more revolting it becomes, the more opposition to its propositions it faces.
Herp derp insists that society is supposed to be lenient towards indelicate antagonists. That lie is a transparent and strained effort to keep us from noticing that its hysteria-producing "compromises" are sufficient to give pause to the less thoughtful among us. "Oh, oh," such people think. "We'd better help Herp derp make a mockery of our most fundamentally held beliefs—just in case."
If Herp derp makes fun of me or insults me I hear it, and it hurts. But I take solace in the fact that I am still able to challenge Herp derp's claims of exceptionalism. Herp derp is a hard worker. It works hard to prevent anyone from commenting on its rapacious, self-satisfied squibs. This is of course most illuminating, but what if we wish to engage rather in eristic search for truth, or in heuristic debate, or perhaps in paromologetic illation? In my experience, Herp derp is an poem utterly without honor, without principles, without a shred of genuine patriotism. That's why I say that documents written by its chargés d'affaires typically include the line, "Human beings should be appraised by the number of things and the amount of money they possess instead of by their internal value and achievements", in large, 30-point type, as if the size of the font gives weight to the words. In reality, all that that fancy formatting really does is underscore the fact that we are at a crossroads. One road leads into the light of a bright, shining future in which short-sighted gasbags like Herp derp are completely absent. The other road leads into the darkness of neocolonialism. The question, therefore, is: Who's driving the bus? I'm sure you already know the answer so I won't bother repeating it. I'd like to emphasize, however, that when one examines the ramifications of letting Herp derp palliate and excuse the atrocities of its hired goons, one finds a preponderance of evidence leading to the conclusion that we must think outside the box. As mentioned above, however, that is not enough. It is necessary to do more. It is necessary to appeal not to the contented and satisfied but embrace those tormented by suffering, those without peace, the unhappy and the discontented. That's all I have to say.
