I think it's funny that the whole GIRL thing happens so much that ppl presume i'm a guy all the time. When i tell them that i am a real life girl they don't believe me at first.
That said i don't really find it annoying. One of my best in-game friends is a guy playing a girl. But i have almost never come across a girl playing a guy..wonder why not? lol

I often get bored and dance around in Orgrimmar
half naked
. There's always at least one person who whispers me and asks if I'm really a girl. haha
I am in case you didn't catch that.

i have mostly guys characters.... >_>
am i the only guy here that has a majority of male characters, dont get me wrong i have like 2 Belfs females but they are my bank alts and only like lvl 1 and 2. other than that i have all males, i do agree with kramp tho, female orcs look extremely savage with plate armor, hands down! they look so savage that i want to roll a warrior... plus there is nothing wrong with rolling females ever, just dont pretend to be a female on game hahaha thats pretty weird imo, and i never assume or jump to conclusions. i dont really care if your a male or female IRL but acting like the opposite sex in game is... i how shld i say this?.... gay 0_o
P.S. orc females shld be more appreciated, i rarely see them... D=

Most of the male character models look pretty retarded. Dranei are... werid. Blood Elves are gay. Humans look like apes. Tauren... well, lets just say I wouldn't want to be behind a cow-man all day.
Personally I think that female toons tend to look badass in plate (rolled a dranei warr) and night elf chicks in themselves are pretty cool. Started my first toon as a female NE rogue.
I don't know about your servers, but on Shattered Hand - Alliance, there are a TON of female players. My guild has a few married couples, my gf plays (she made me reroll a male toon), and when in parties and ppl are using Voice Chat, you can definitely find the female players. My guild master is a girl, too. So to say that girls don't play WoW is an understatement. It just varies from server to server.
A little note on why girls don't like guys playing female toons. They think it's creepy. Especially if the girl in question is a gf. I mean, when you're ingame with your gf... she's gonna want to be emoting things at you (/hug, /kiss, etc.) and.. it would just be weird, for both of you, if the emotes were directed at a female toon.

I play female characters because all the males look too similar to me to justify rolling one. My only exception was that my blood elf Paladin's a male because I made him look like my fiance. xD
When I showed him off to one of my guildies, they kind of /stare'd in shock and told me over vent, "OMG you made a male toon!" I just smirked at them and told them I'd rather roll one male toon than stare at -another- female Belf butt for 70 levels. Before that, I had made a Belf hunter so...
Typically though, I can tell in a group whether someone is male or female; there's just this undercurrent of "tone" in text and how someone carries themselves in a PUG. I've only missed the mark once or twice.

In my experiences, female players tend to be a bit "playful" in the way they chat. Using the smilies and other little chat icon things.

and all manner of such tend to be used more frequently by female players than male. Also, when getting a drop from a boss and being allowed to Need roll on it, they tend to be overappriciatve.

I'm a female WoW player (I know I know, they don't exist in RL) and always play female toons. I always assume that the person behind the character is the gender they are playing. It bugs me when I find out differently. Don't really know why though. There are quite a few girl players in my guild who all play female characters (I know they are real girls thanks to vent). I don't know any guys who play a girl in game.

I find it a little weird whenever I encounter a male-playing-female but I usually shrug it off, they have their reasons, perverted or not.
There are also females-playing-male out there, they're rare, but they exist.

My druid is a male night elf but, in my opinion, he looks funny. Thankfully I'm a tree so I don't look at him very often! LOL I have two female toons. My draeni shaman is female because the male draeni are goofy looking, something about the squid beard reminds me of Davey Jones in pirates of the carribean... I recently rolled a Orc and made it female because you just never see them, not sure why... To those of you who roll female toons for something nice to look at.... umm, you need to get out more.

I'm female and my toons are all female. I did roll a male draenei but I found it quite odd running around as a man. I always assume the player is the gender of their char but I think that's because I'm a woman and as mentioned above its often the case that women don't have male characters.
The fact that most guys assume all players are men also does have hilarious consequences at times though. There's a running joke in my guild that our guild master and I are going to get married and are deeply in love. We've never met IRL, in fact we live in different countries and I have a boyfriend but its all good fun. Anyway, sometime ago we were having one of our moments, calling each other babe etc when one of the newer members pipes up that he thinks he'd find it abit strange calling another guy 'babe'. I couldn't help but laugh when about half the guildies online all replied at once that I was a girl! Bless.
