Highest dps class?

Okay I know this is probably a question that is in constant debate and that it's probably been asked a thousand times. But I'm getting ready to run a new toon that is going to be strictly for raid and pve dps. No pvp whatsoever. I've heard people debate between fire mage, bm hunter, and destro lock. I'm just wondering what the official word would be. Same gear, probably around t4, and not worrying about other peoples buffs, just self buffs. Thanks a lot.

Well if we're talking melee... then you're looking at a rogue. Then again, if you're looking at everything technically you'd want at least a windfury totem up and a few other (very common) buffs...

Highest DPS... no such thing.
Gear, fight, player, talents, group make up... all affect it.
Example, Void Reaver. A fight that promotes melee class over ranged (as melee never have to stop fighting were ranged have to run around).
All trash fights... any spike dmg person is going to beat any long term DPS (example.. a destro lock would beat an affliction lock on trash). (Example of how spec changes damage)
Take any melee... and drop them in a caster group (if the melee groups are full and there just isnt a way to synergize them)... there DPS will suck in comparison. Same goes for a caster in a melee group.
Take a warlock that sac's his pet for damage... put him in the tanks group and tell him to keep his imp out... not only is that a QQing warlock... but he losses DPS (in favor of keeping a tank alive... how greedy).
A player who watches TV while playing (unless a hunter that just spams a macro on a fight were moving doesn't matter)... there DPS will be lower then someone actively fighting.
No such thing as best DPS. Or best healer, or best tank.
There are classes that have advantages over others, but that is almost completely situational and can rely heavily on buffs given by any number of things.

big flame, sorry!!
Okay I know this is probably a question that is in constant debate and that it's probably been asked a thousand times.
if you know it's in constant debate, it shouldn't be hard to find other topics right? still yo made this one
But I'm getting ready to run a new toon that is going to be strictly for raid and pve dps. No pvp whatsoever.
by saying BUT you didn't mean your first sentence.... why even write it down???
I've heard people debate between fire mage, bm hunter, and destro lock. I'm just wondering what the official word would be.
so you did found those threads about which is best, but decided to make this post...
plus you won't find the official word here, we're not blizzard...
Same gear, probably around t4, and not worrying about other peoples buffs, just self buffs. Thanks a lot.
hang on a sec, you're making a new char, but are thinking about T4? why not T5 or T6 or T3?
I hate these constant identical returning posts!!! stop answering to those lazy n00bs, then they're actually forced to search for a change.... ... this user joined made 1 post and never returned... waste of time actually....

Realistically, a warlock can pull the very highest dps at all tiers fairly easily. There are other classes that can also do well with a bit of skill - hunter springs to mind. Mage shouldn't even touch them at the top end, but at tier 4 it's going to be negligible.
Melee dps have big disadvantages for a lot of fights, and rogue/fury warrior still shouldn't touch warlocks.

Actually in response to Afilo, I should have looked at the other posts. My apologies, I'm quite new to the forum thing actually. I did see the other posts I just assumed that they would be there. But, in all actuality I was lazy and didn't look them up. My apologies but I believe in being brutally honest. The reason I thought about t4 instead of t5 or t6 is simply because I don't see myself getting that high before the expansion comes out simply because the guild I plan on joining is more casual but I still want to help them out. Also, I do plan on returning to the forums as I would like to learn and to share info as I improve as a player. But all in all, I do appreciate the constructive criticism from a much more experienced person in the way of Blizzard forum etiquette. Thank you all for the answers they were very informative.

Wowgeek, OP asked which class had the highest dps at t4, and of course, that means in a perfect environment with perfect buffs....
Same gear, probably around t4, and not worrying about other peoples buffs,
just self buffs
Do you seriously just click my name to argue?
Skill and spec make up the largest portion of someones DPS, not class.
Ele shaman, h.mech (daily this morning). With mage and a hunter. Hunter was all s1/s2. By most peoples standards... hunter should have beet me. I easily pulled 250DPS more then him... only reason I couldn't pull more is I often had to stop due to threat ceiling and having to just stand there waiting for the tank to build some agro. But really... I'm not going to sit here and argue which class is best. About as asinine as comparing which grass is greener.

Read up on the
WWS Scoreboard
.
That links to Brutallus which is considerably the most perfect environment, perfect situation.. etc.. if not, you will just wipe. Everything has to be at its best. It's a great way to check up on everything.

HeadOn
Apply directly to forehead.
Were in Kara is Brutallus? I'm exalted with the Violet Eye but I must have missed him... (/sarcasm, sorry had to put this in... simply because he's asking about T4 and your comparing stats of people who've farmed T6 content for so long there non-combat pets are geared.)
Where's the break down of their gear score, to compare to others. Or which buff's group set up was used.
Warlocks used to be able to 1 shot people.... nerf.
Mages could nuke down 90+ mobs at once... nerf.
Retpaladins have had the most changes in itemization (from 2.0 to now to what 3.0 will bring).
Perhaps I was too vague. The grass is always greener on the other side. It's always darkest before the dawn. Here today, gone tomorrow.
I.e.
Every class will always look better.
Those who are weak, well be buffed.
Those who are too powerful, will be nerfed.
