In Patch 8.2, you'll receive the
Pocket-Sized Computation Device
trinket from completing a quest in Mechagon. This trinket allows you to socket Punch-Cards into the trinket, which allows you to customize it to your liking! In this post, we'll review over 30 red, yellow, and blue punchcard options.
Pocket-Sized Computation Device Trinket
In order to obtain the
Pocket-Sized Computation Device
, you have to complete the
Upgraded
from
Christy Punchcog
in Rustbolt.
The Trinket comes with 3 "Punchcard" sockets -- one "Red", one "Blue", one "Yellow".
In these sockets, you can place one of many Punchcard "gems" that can be found through various sources in Mechagon.
Red Punchcards
The Red Punchcards affect your combat capabilities through an On Use ability or an Passive ability. All the Red Punchcards on the PTR are:
Harmonic Dematerializer
: Use: Deals 7410 damage to target creature, and increases Harmonic Dematerializer's damage to targets with the same name by 10%. This bonus resets if you use it on a target with a different name.
Cyclotronic Blast
: Use: Channel a cyclotronic blast, dealing 21142 damage every 0.5 sec for 2.5 sec
Subroutine: Overclock
: Equip: Chance on damage or healing to gain 10% haste
Subroutine: Emergency Repairs
: Equip: Healing allies under 50% health has a chance to cause your spells to refund Mana for until cancelled, up to 23718 total mana.
Regenerative Capacitors
: Equip: Your critical heals have a chance to generate Capacitance, increasing your next heal on an injured target by 4151.
Subroutine: Optimization
: Equip: Your spells and abilities have a chance to Optimize you for until cancelled, redistributing your secondary stats to match the distribution on your equipped Logic Board. While optimized, gain 240 additional stats.
Replication Protocol
: Equip: Materialize a horde of Mechagnome automatons, pummeling all enemies in front of you over 6 sec.
Subroutine: Recalibration
: Equip: Casting 20 spells grants you 108 Haste for 12 sec, then you lose 54 Haste for 6 sec as you recalibrate.
Trajectory Analysis
: Equip: Taking Physical damage grants 108 Dodge for 6 sec. This effect stacks.
Subroutine: Defragmentation
: Equip: Heal for 555 every 1 sec, increased by up to 50% based on your missing health.
Hijack Synaptic Circuits
: Use: Override a Mechanical creature's synaptic circuits, making them assist you in combat for 3 min.
Blue Punchcards
The Blue Punchcards generally have a more situational effect. All the Blue Punchcards on the PTR are:
Electromagnetic Resistors
: Equip: Increase resistance to movement forces
Friend-or-Foe Identifier
: Equip: Track nearby Mechanical creatures
Neural Autonomy
: Equip: Gain Neural Silencer, making you immune to some annoyances.
Emergency Anti-Gravity Device
: Equip: Falling for more than 2 sec will engage the Emergency Anti-Gravity Device.
Supplemental Oxygenation Device
: Equip: Lung capacity increased by 1000%.
Slipstream Generator
: Equip: While in water, gain X% Swim Speed every 1 sec.
Metal Detector
: Equip: Helps you find additional Spare Parts in Mechagon.
Remote Circuit Bypasser

I was just thinking that. It needs an ability to swap them out when needed.

is it really gonna stick to 385 ilvl? o.O

385 iLvl? i really hope we can get a higher iLvl otherwise is useless. cool idea and i really hope it doesn't go to waste

Hopefully this signals a change in gear design to allow players access to more customisable equipment slots in the future. Allowing players to choose stats and effects (up to some point) would bring back some RPG style elements.

There's no stats on the trinket itself though, so the ilvl is irrelevant.

They could do it similar to Azerite Equipment. Increasing the item level increases the effects of the punch cards you've equipped.

So why are people complaining about ilvl? It could be level 10 for all we care, it doesn't have any traits or stats on it. It's brilliant.
I wished ALL gear to have 3-5 or even 10 sockets so you could customize it however you desire!

I guess peoples are complaining about ilvl because it will actually impact which ilvl is displayed for your char, which hurt a bit your feeling of progression but more importantly hurt your ability to be recruited for PUG because lot's of them still choose who they invite based on ilvl.
I won't personnaly like your idea btw, because it's not what Wow look like. You will have to completely redesign all the game. At this point, I can't say if it would be for better or for worst, but it will become a different game.
In any case the main problem with this kind of "customization" is that it is almost impossible to balance. Peoples will always find a combination that gives better results, this combination will become the meta, and boom, this is the end of "customization", everybody slot the same things and that's about it.

Is there any way in the PTR to swap the punch cards? Do we lose them if we do so?

I have a couple of predictions that will likely make this trinket not the WoW killing end of the world literally unplayable item that some people think it will be.
1) The ilvl on the base trinket will be based on an average of the three punch cards slotted. Those have individual ilvls that will scale up just like other gear.
2) The cards will be swappable on demand out of combat. If you need the swim speed or Mechagon traits you can use them, then swap it out for the resistance one as needed.
Let's give the devs a bit of credit. They have made requested changes to the azerite armor, added the essence system. They are not now going to double down on the ideas that the community has been whining and complaining about for months now.

Simple fix, just make it unique-equipped rather than unique. That way people can have multiple trinkets customized for each role.

I know as JC if you craft the 8.1.5 item you can take them out since they count as gem sockets.

No primary stat baseline? This is one of the largest mistakes ever in gear. I see peeps just ignoring it for the most part. i mean it's like the azerite neck, just worse... lesson's *not learned*

There are quite alot of trinkets in BfA, that doesnt have "main stats" on them, instead they have ex. 160 haste, and then an on use X primary stat.
This trinket is abit like that, but instead of 1 stat + 1 on use / on proc. You get three, that you can customize in any way you want to.
Actually, wasnt there a trinket back in Cata, crafted by engineers, that had the same mechanics?
You could put +200 main stat / +200 secondary stat, and so forth in it?
Edit. remember the trinket, from that elf in the cave, in Azsuna? - It had secondary stats, and it was BiS for alot of classes, for a long time in that expac.

Subroutine: Emergency Repairs Healing allies under 200% health
So it's a 100% uptime benefit? :)
