Welcome to the fourth edition of the guide feature! You know of the over 1500
user-submitted guides
on Wowhead, but have you considered writing one of your own? With so many topics to choose from and a multitude of ways to display the information, how do you know how best to tackle the concept?
As a long-time writer of over two dozen guides on the site, I've seen what works and what doesn't in the guide system. I've looked at every single guide published at some point or another to see how other writers chose to display the guide information. In this feature, selected impressive guides that may be less popular are being brought to your attention in a quick newsflash.
Featured Guide
In this edition, we're featuring the "
Comprehensive Ashran Guide
" written by
HelloKitty
. HelloKitty brings the PvP world to life with this dangerous zone that allows players to rack up kills of the enemy faction or focus on various events occurring around the zone.
Comprehensive Ashran Guide
With Battle for Azeroth's release date announced, you may be wanting to brush up on your PvP skills. Battlegrounds are nice for this, but the event ends and oftentimes the focus is on the specific goal of the battleground and less on battling the opposing team. Tol Barad and Wintergrasp are fairly empty, and the downtime between battles is lengthy. But Ashran...oh, Ashran. Here players can spend anywhere from an hour to a whole day in constant battle as they try to take over different areas of the zone. It's never-ending, but rather keeps cycling back through the events so that players can come and go as they please.
Let's take a closer look at the guide:
HelloKitty sets the stage of the guide by telling you exactly what the purpose of the guide is as well as the goal of the zone itself. Then, it's on to the details!
This guide gets a nod from us because it truly is comprehensive, but is organized in such a way that it doesn't turn the guide into a giant wall of text. HelloKitty talks about every aspect of Ashran so that players have no need to go elsewhere, and does so in a nicely organized and clear manner that includes tips intertwined with objective information. The Table of Contents (shown here, broken into two parts) is exceptional in detail so that those players trying to find a particular piece of information are able to navigate to it quickly. This guide provides you everything you need to know about Ashran, from the areas of the zone where events are held, to how to prioritize spending resources, to (my personal favorite) achievements.
Whether you're new to PvP or a seasoned pro, Ashran is a great place to grind out honorable kills without downtime or feeling like the game is getting repetitive. For the Faction!!

Everything About That Place No One Queues For

I had mixed feelings about it because the Devs basically scrapped the idea of Bladespire and Karabor as cities to move them to Ashran as towns. Other than that, the scale of PvP that happened there was really fun.

If Garrison AH pieces didn't drop from this place it would be put out.

Is there anything in the guide that says how to get in? I can queue for hours and have no luck...

What is the actual point of this guide?

Wasn’t it hinted somewhere that the Ashran achievements are moving to legacy with the Battle for Azeroth expansion? If so, this will be extra useful now for those who want to get them in the bank before they become inaccessible.
I’ll chime in as someone who quite enjoyed Ashran during WoD, once I got the hang of it and figured out how to guide my teammates for optimal victories. It’s a bit daunting and confusing at first but, like with many things in the game, becomes quite doable once you figure out what’s going on (which many folks will hopefully find the guide useful for).

Most common explanation is to encourage people to queue it (and make waiting times shorter by it).

I haven't been able to get into Ashran even once since Legion started, I thought it was bugged all this time.

What is the actual point of this guide?
Seriously..... Highlighting one of the most hated features of the game, in the most loathed expac. That no one really does anymore.

Try queue as the opposite faction, you can do this in Dalaran Sewers or outside Warspear/Stormshield.
This guide contains lots of outdated information but it's solid overall, definitely not updated, as it claims.

A guide for content from (about to be) 2 expansions back that literally nobody does anymore? Interesting.

I don't think this guide writer realises that noone goes to Ashran since Legion launched. I've tried several times over the last 18 months and you can spend all day in the queue for it never to pop.

The Q requires 80 people to be in q simultaniously. I've been told this almost never happens in EU, and US side you're out of luck unless you're playing near prime time on weekends. I've frequently been in q's for over 4 hours, only for the match to end in 5 minutes because not enough of the 80 people clicked accept.

But Ashran delete in BfA...

Nothing against the person who made the guide, I'm sure a fair amount of time and effort was invested into it but I'm a little bit dumbfounded as to why an Ashran guide gets to be on the spotlight right now.
WoD was one of the most disliked expansions (ranking even lower than Cataclysm) and Ashran wasn't exactly the pinnacle of the expansion either.
We've also, content-wise, reached the end of Legion with BfA on the horizon so it does feel out of place to highlight this guide.
