For today's Legion news, we have a closer look at the Demonology Warlock Artifact, some blue tweets on the improved Dungeon Journal and minor glyphs in Legion, and a spotlight on some of the minor glyph changes coming in Legion.
Demonology Warlock Artifact Acquisition
Below is the questline for Demonology Warlocks to acquire
Skull of the Man'ari
, which was added last week. More artifact videos can be found on our
YouTube Artifact Acquisition Playlist
.
Below is the description when selecting
Skull of the Man'ari
:
The sorcerer Thal'kiel was one of the first Eredar who learned the techniques of summoning and controlling demons. After his defeat, his skull was put on display as an example of the dangers of the dark arts. The lesson went unheeded. After the Eredar's fall, the skull was taken by the generals of the Burning Legion to enhance their control of their armies.
Hit the spoiler button for a written summary of the acquisition quest.
The first quest
The Sixth
is one all warlocks must complete to select their artifact weapon.
Risstyn Flamecowl asks your aid in summoning the demon,
Jagganoth
. Things, of course, go awry and you must save several warlocks from his clutches in the Dreadscar.
Greetings, warlock. I come to you as a representative of the Council of the Black Harvest. We are in need of you. With the Legion invasion upon us, it is painfully clear that we will need more power to be victorious. The council plans on tapping into the Twisting Nether to call forth more powerful demon allies. The ritual is ready, but we are short one number - no doubt you have heard the fate of Kanrethad Ebonlocke. You will be his replacement, warlock. Do you accept?
In
The New Blood
, you must enter the Dreadscar Rift and defeat the demons there, aiding the warlocks' escape and escape from the Dreadscar Rift yourself. In this quest you are aided by the treasure demon,
Calydus
.
The above steps are played out in the following scenario:
Stage 1
– Far From Home
Listen to Ritssyn.
Stage 2
– The Dread Warden
Enslave the jailer Beshtal to free yourself from his cage, then defeat him with Risstyn's aid.
Stage 3
– The Shattered Council
Rescue Jubeka Shadowbreaker, Zinnin Smythe, and Shinfel Blightsworn.
Stage 4
– Jailbreak
Escape from Jagganoth's prison.
Stage 5
– The Pit Lord's Secrets
Follow Calydus to the archives to uncover information about the artifacts Jagganoth hunts.
Final Stage
– To Fight Another Day
Follow Calydus to escape from Dreadscar Rift.
After defeating a guardian infernal,
Xel'toth
, you return to the Circle of Wills to hand in the overall quest
The New Blood
and choose your artifact.
After completing the above and uncovering the artifact information,
The Tome of Blighted Implements
allows you to choose your artifact.
The book you carry is the key to your friends' salvation, and to your absolute power! It holds within information about many relics too dangerous to the Legion to leave unchecked. Read, friend. And decide which of these artifacts you will use to strike Jagganoth down!
You are then tasked with collecting reagents to deal with the skull's will in
Ritual Reagents
.
The Skull of the Man'ari, oh good choice! It's very powerful and it's held by an even more powerful Dreadlord!
There is a weakness, the skull has a will of its own! If we can commune with the skull we might be able to convince it to serve you instead!
We will need reagents from the city above before we can perform the ritual to commune with it. Dust from a fresh grave, dark oil, and a powerful alcohol catalyst.
Oh, and blood! I sense a beast nearby who's blood should be perfect..
Ritual Reagents
sends you around Dalaran to collect these reagents..
Throughout the questline, the denizens of Dalaran react to your dark magic and collection methods. For example, in the Legerdemain Lodge you must fight a drunken mage to steal his drink.
Calydus then asks in your aid in performing a ritual with the reagents you collected, in quest
Looking into the Darkness
Friend now is ready to perform the ritual! Remember, friend, the skull must be convinced that it is in its best interest to be in your possession. If we must force the skull into your servitude, it would be far weaker.
The quest
Dark Whispers
then sends you to Felsoul Hold. After completing this, you begin the Artifact Acquisition Scenario by going to look for the skull after it has revealed its location to you. You must return to the Dreadscar Rift to clear waves of demons and finally defeat Jagganoth.
Stage 1
– The Council's Vengeance
Defeat Jagganoth in Dreadscar Rift.
Stage 2
– Cut Out the Heart
Collect the Heart of the Overlord.
Final Stage
– Becoming the Overlord
Place the Heart of the Overlord above the altar in the Seat of the Overlord to take command of his armies.
You obtain your artifact during the above scenarios, and this completes
The Heart of the Dreadscar
which gives you your Class Hall port spell
Ritual of Return
.
Demonology Warlock Weapon Models
This model video covers all the styles and colors for
Skull of the Man'ari
. This artifact is a floating skull offhand with unique animations - it flies around your character. More model videos can be found on our
YouTube Artifact Models Playlist
.
All weapon styles can be added to the
Legion Dressing Room
and can be browsed on the "Appearances" tab in the
Artifact Calculator
. You can also
save and share an Outfit with this artifact
- a custom transmog set!
There is also an alternate style added later during the alpha:
Glyphs in Legion
Blizzard has posted a few updates on upcoming minor glyphs:
Since Beast Mastery has been unlocked, this has been the strongest point of feedback, and we've heard you, loud and clear.
Coming soon will be a glyph that makes Dire Beast summon your stabled pets, instead of random area-themed beasts. We're also considering a talent that replaces Dire Beast with a new shot, and are interested in feedback and ideas on that concept.
Thanks!
Glyphs in Legion have been undergoing big changes these past few data builds; here's a recap of the changes so far.
Major glyphs are gone. Important effects have been baked into remaining abilities.
Minor glyphs don't have a limit of 3; you can apply cosmetic glyphs to all related spells. You cannot apply two cosmetic glyphs to the same spell though.
Some minor glyphs are no longer glyphs but can be acquired through several ways:
Tomes are books which permanently teach you cosmetic abilities.
Class-specific toys replicate the effects of glyphs.
Glyphs which are now abilities from tomes are:
Mystical Tome: Arcane Linguist
,
Pet Training Manual: Play Dead
,
Fireworks Instruction Manual
,
The Art of Concealment
,
Tome of the Wilds: Treant Form
,
Tome of the Wilds: Mount Form
,
Tome of the Wilds: Track Beasts
,
Tome of the Wilds: Flap
,
Tome of the Wilds: Charm Woodland Creature
,
Necrophile Tome: Corpse Exploder
,
Pet Training Manual: Fetch
,
Mystical Tome: Illusion
,
Meditation Manual: Zen Flight
,
Divine Tome: Contemplation
,
Dirty Tricks, Vol 1: Detection
,
Tome of Hex: Compy
,
Tome of Hex: Spider
,
Tome of Hex: Snake
,
Tome of Hex: Cockroach
Glyphs which are now toys are:
Nature's Beacon
for Glyph of One with Nature
Hunter's Call
for Glyph of Aspects
Familiar Stone
for Glyph of Conjure Familiar
Scarlet Confessional Book
for Glyph of Confession
Tadpole Cloudseeder
for Glyph of Rain of Frogs
Raging Elemental Stone
for Glyph of Elemental Familiars
Vol'jin's Serpent Totem
for Glyph of Flaming Serpent
There are also new minor glyphs which have been added during the alpha:
Glyph of Cracked Ice
: Your Path of Frost ability now looks a little cracked, just a little.
: Your Path of Frost ability now reacts a bit with the environment around you.
Glyph of Fearsome Metamorphosis
: Metamorphosis causes nearby critters to run away in fear.
Glyph of the Feral Chameleon
: Each time you shapeshift into Cat Form, your shapeshifted form will have a random hair color.
Glyph of Autumnal Bloom
: Replaces your Hurricane spell with Astral Storm.
Charred Glyph
: Your Hunter's Mark ability now places a bullseye on your target instead of its usual visual.
Glyph of the Trident
: Your Harpoon spell throws a Trident rather than your current weapon.
Glyph of the Hook
: Your Harpoon spell throws a Grappling Hook rather than your current weapon.
: Your Arcane Shot takes on a blue tint.
Glyph of Stellar Flare
: Your Flare ability now drops a ball of sparks at the target location.
Charred Glyph
: You throw a javel instead of a hatchet when you use Hatchet Toss.
: Your Freezing Trap freezes creatures into a block of ice rather than spikes.
Glyph of Arachnophobia
: Your Dire Beast ability calls on spiders more often. Why? Because everyone is afraid of spiders.
Glyph of Nesingwary's Nemeses
: Your Dire Beast ability often calls for beasts victimized by the famed hunter.
Charred Glyph
: Your Hunter's Mark ability now places a skull on your target instead of its usual visual.
Glyph of the Goblin Anti-Grav Flare
: Your Flare ability now drops a string of firecrackers at the target location.
Charred Glyph
: Your Judgment spell depicts an axe instead of a hammer.
Glyph of the Queen
: Your Guardian of Ancient Kings now summons the wrath of a Queen!
Glyph of Pebbles
: Reduces the size of your Earth Elemental by 15%.
Glyph of Flickering
: Reduces the size of your Fire Elemental by 15%.
Glyph of the Spectral Raptor
: Alters the appearance of your Ghost Wolf transformation, causing it to resemble a large, spectral raptor.
Glyph of the Inquisitor's Eye
: Transforms your Eye of Kilrogg into an Inquisitor's Eye.
: Transforms your Eye of Kilrogg into a Beholder.
Glyph of the Blazing Savior
: Your Intercept leaves a trail of fire in its wake. If you're going to Intercept why not do it with some style?
Legion Dungeon Journal for Old Raids
Blizzard has confirmed on Twitter that the Dungeon Journal in Legion will include loot information for old raids to help with transmog.
This was visible in
data from the first Alpha build in November
but it's good to have confirmation. The entries for these bosses will have loot details but no abilities at first.
In addition, showing loot on boss pages is a core part of Wowhead. You can use the site currently to find transmog items from a particular boss, open them in the modelviewer, read comments, add screenshots, and save your
transmog outfit
.

The artifact for Demonology is definitely awesome looking, and I like the glyph changes, which I'm curious to see how the market turns out. Moving along, I'm so happy that they're finally updating the Dungeon Journal for the older raids. I did leave a suggestion in-game for them to add a "Wishlist" tab to the journal. A player could right click an item and have an option appear that would allow them to add said item to their wishlist.

The skulls movement feels off when you walk or fly - like its stuck to the character. Hopefully its movement will be less static.

I think Inscription are getting a lot of new artifact-related jobs.
There are some glyphs, Vantas Runes (increases your damage on a boss for a week), toys like Steamy Romance Novels, and a 'scroll of knowledge' which gave me artifact power. I planned on previewing more of the profession today, but there just wasn't enough complete information.

That spirit raptor form should be for trolls only >:O
great we have no more limit to how many minor glyphs we can have though...

Hopefully they'll add an animation where it will maybe move to your off-hand-side and hover there, bouncing up and down and twirling as you move and fly. I also saw it glitch in Nobbel's playthrough of the questline where it was horribly anchored to his arm/hand... You can see what I'm talking about at the 47:13 mark, where it swings around wildly when he jumps, and then bobs weirdly as it does it's ring as he's running to the next objective.

Also, aren't the new minor glyphs going to be consumable? I'm pretty sure they are consumed when you use them on a spell, and will have to be reapplied if you change it to something else then change your mind.
Whether the glyphs are or aren't though, it seems to me like they're replacing major glyphs with more minor glyphs, and adding more things that can be made. This seems like it would be as good/even better than it is now.

I love the CONCEPT of the demonology artifact, but the implementation is really bad.
The "energy trail" keeps shape and size no matter the movement. The reason it's a "tail" is because the skull is supposed to be moving forward at a given speed - when it's not, it looks really amateurish.

Changing Glyph of the Flaming Serpent to a useless toy is an insult. My troll shammy uses that snake instead of the boring totem all the time. There's no sensible reason why every other cosmetic glyph has been turned into a spell enchant book except for Flaming Serpent. I'm sure it has something to do with Blizz's new obsession with "fitting the fantasy," the Serpent being too much like Vol'jin's and other such purely subjective nonsense.

While I found this Artifact Aquisition video informative, I found the streamer lacking in ability to showcase the Demo-Lock; having said that, though - and admitting/conceding that this is still Legion in its' Alpha phase - if this is what Demo-locks are intended to play like, I fear for their continuation as even a viable levelling spec. I will add that I am in no way claiming to be any authority on Warlock-ing, but if Demonology has been reduced to 'spamming Shadow Bolt' then I see no reason to even level the Demonology Warlock alt. I have any further than the L90 'she' is at.
All other Acquisition videos, to date, have show a significantly better knowledge of the Class being showcased, and it seems that the streamer who made this video "drew the short straw" in the selection process for making it.
One thing I DID notice was that the Alpha is starting to implement details on how Artifact appearances are obtained as I noticed (in this video) that one required a Quest (chain?) to be completed & another required an Exalted reputation... will such details be added to the Wowhead database as the become 'available' or 'finalised'...?
Sorry to moan about the time & trouble someone has taken to produce this video (invidious effort that it is), but a better showcase of the Class abilities would have made it more enjoyable (for me).

Excited for the update to the dungeon journal. I also like the idea of the summon a stable pet for dire beast. I really hope that spell doesn't go away all together, tho. But this page made my day with " Tadpole Cloudseeder"!

Hey Eighjan,
I made this video, and yes I don't have any knowlage in this class, or should I say in all classes except for ret, holy and prot paladin. So believe me it was hard for me tho to enjoy playing them :) The big mistake in this video is Doom debuff I was casting on mobs, that I was refreshing on them instead to wait for debuff to finish, it was damn dps lost of 42k dmg per 16 sec + extra soul shard.

My problem with minor glyphs, is that some of them you will never use. For example the dk spell, Path of Frost, it sounds and looks cool to walk on a cracky ice, but after a few minutes you will switch back to fall damage reduction and continue questing, this is the same for shaman ghost wolf and druid travel forms. Blizzard should split minor glyphs into 2 parts, one for pure cosmetic effects, and one which affect gameplay.

I like the idea of a skull that is floating around you, as your weapon.

I hope I don't need to get all my minor glyphs again and that we just keep the ones we have that are going to Legion.
