because when around large groups, people often can't resist the urge to join in the atmosphere, be it swearing or picking on members.
WoW is rated T because of its content, not the people in it, which is why it has the "Gameplay will vary online" under the T rating - since blizzard can't control its players without giving them a list of phrases they get to choose and no actual typing.
WoW doesn't ban the F word, there's a profanity filter in game for people who do not wish to have to read it. They do however sometimes ban people going around saying "F YOU" randomly.
I say your experience will vary, if you find yourself in a guild like that, leave it, the guild won't survive too long anyway. They're usually full of people who think they're the greatest because they have better gear than you.
Much better off finding a nice guild of 20-40 people who are friendly.

Anti gay? Are you saying this because people say " *blank* is gay" in reference to... anything? I've actually heard a gay acquaintance use the word "gay" like that... I've also heard him call flamboyant men "%^&s" so go figure.
And pornography? Seriously? On the guild websites? I'm not really sure I believe that.
And then there's racism... once again, no offense, but I'm not buying that one either.
The swearing I can believe, and it drives me crazy. I just don't see the point. I know the "you swear because you have a limited vocabulary" argument is somewhat of a dead horse, but I'd still beat it if I thought it would do any good.
Elitism goes with the territory. You get people who are at the top of their game (whether it be WoW or their career) and you will encounter snobs and jerks at every turn.

Were you in a raid when you noticed this?
Because people get pretty worked up and I admit to calling someone a few nasty words during raids, although it's just men(rarely women)doing what they enjoy.
I take it your gay?
because he dislikes pornography, racism, anti-gay etc you assume he's gay?
damn, you need to go out more and meet some ppl.
OT: i nothised the anti-gay, making fun of other guild members. i just join them in the conversation lol. i don't really mind ^^

My guild has reached the 500 character limit many times and we have an alt guild, with about 80 unique accounts in the guild. We are a very large guild. Our common traits are:
Community
Family/Real Life First
Friendships
Maturity
All forms of discrimination are banned
Racist and extremely prejudiced terms in guild chat will likely get you kicked
We have annual conventions around the country
EVERYONE gets equal respect, gay, straight, man, woman
Not all large guilds are full of immature morons.

+ Anti gay.
What? Granted, I have only been in two large guilds, but in
both
of them, terms like buttsecks or whalecum were very much appreciated, to an extent that would seem pro-gay.

It has been stated time & time again by Blizzard that the profanity filter is not an excuse to use obscene language in-game (and thusly our forums).
Is the purpose of this thread invalidated by the fact the OP has stereotyped every "large" guild in the WoW community?
Instead of propagating threads such as this, join an organization in real life to help fight discrimination. Wowhead is not the place for this subject matter.
