Frost is a very fun tree to play with, great survivabiliy and CC. I'm a 2/48/11 raiding mage (BT experienced). Our guild welcomes both raiders and pvp players. But if mages do decide to raid we find it only fair that they bring their best. We require 2/48/11 because it is currently the best by far. It's great that people enjoy frost, but there are 24 other people counting on you to do your part. So we feel it's for the good of the raid. (The spec is only forced on progression nights, otherwise you could be 61/0/0 for luls)
Can you give me a guestimate as to how much more your mage DPS has increased by doing this? I'm curious.
I don't mean to be a jerk about this, but have you noticed, Targetlocked, that all of the posts you've recently made speak only of this 2/48/11 spec? Are you being paid to advertise it or something?

I find it somewhat hard to believe that raiding in BT with 1300 DPS is cutting it or even still making the top 5. Mages in BT That I know are doing near 1800-2000 or MORE DPS, but CERTAINLY more than 1300. Can anybody else verify this?

Sunwell mages are barely making 2100 dps (They have farmed BT for over a year). Check the Brutallis fights. I'm in T5 gear still except my offhand, since our loot distribution is based on dkp.
So then you're saying that just by going from T5 to T6 you get 800 DPS? Boy, I can't wait to make that leap...

Actually, I'm quite a good listener but maybe you have selective hearing. You compared yourself to mages who are beyond BT and stated that the only difference between your gear and those mages is full T6 and BT gear vs T5.
"Sunwell mages are barely making 2100 dps (They have farmed BT for over a year). Check the Brutallis fights. I'm in T5 gear still except my offhand, since our loot distribution is based on dkp."
My math does indicate that 2100-1300 = 800...
I'm not picking a fight with you amigo, just reading your posts and truly, if I can get into T6 content, I hope that my DPS will reach as high as I've seen.

Well I can personally attest to knowing at least at least one mage who can break 2100 DPS and sustain around 2000 DPS (Admittedly, I don't know exactly what his numbers are like during an extended fight in the raid setting, however). I also know a warlock now who is breaking 1600 DPS and isn't even much beyond T4 content yet! There are no SPriests involved when these numbers fly out nor shammies or boomkins. Just STRAIGHT DPSing.
You seem to be more familiar than I am with the general flow of numbers in these types of extended boss fights. What kind of DPS goes out for these end game fights?

I suppose that's another harsh/crude way to say it...

I've seen Entropius and I am telling you that anecdotal evidence is awesome! Please! Post more "I outdps'd x as y, wow, y must be awesome!" posts, they're clearly advancing the human race as whole more than any NASA program ever did.

I have seen many TC posts that compare frost to fire. One thing I have yet to see any deep TC cover is the difference between Frost and Fire given the 40 point difference in hit cap required. 40 lower hit cap means 50 points extra spell damage for a frost mage (assuming blue gems) relative to the fire mage with otherwise equal gear. At the T4/T5 level of gearing, this means that Fire, which has a slim margin at best, comes out a wash with Frost.
At higher gear levels (T6/Sunwell) Fire regains ascendancy due to the larger mana pool and higher +spell damage; it scales better. And at higher gear levels, this scaling swamps the +hit gain that frost has (due to the long-time Elemental Precision bug).
I think many people forget about the difference in hit cap, and what it means for ice damage (since they are free to gem more +damage). Those strongly into TC calculations only look at T6+ gear... that's what they're raiding, and that's nice. But for most people who are happy to have a full T4 set, let alone ANY T6 gear, the fire spec hasn't outdistanced Frost by so far that the +hit difference (and the mana efficiency) bring the specs into relative parity.
