Nah, they've been going in order of real threats...and a living corpse is low on that list.

Agreed. The Lich King was just a peon in the army of the real threat.

I think its also a matter of lore content vs gameplay content.
Lots of people make the claim that Cross-Realm Zones, Guild Leveling/Perks, Dungeon Finder and Raid Finder killed server identity and sense of community. If, for instance, Wrath of the Lich King and Cataclysm switched places in the release of their expansions and it was WotLK that introduced most of those features, would be players still look fondly on their time in Northrend or would they say the expansion sucked because of their implementation? Same with Mists of Pandaria and its "dailycraft" and Rep/Valor gating.
While not denying lore does play a large part, I think what players enjoyed most goes beyond whatever lore the expansion at hand gives us.

For threat it would be this
Illidan
->Hogger
->Garrosh->Lei Shen->Arthas->Deathwing

Those lots of people, it they even exist are full of *&^%. This game has
NEVER
had a sense of community. What prevented this game from ever having a community is Blizzard's *&^% community. Blizzard's player base has always been legendary horrible. The sesspool that is the official boards perfected flaming each other almost ten years ago and that is because this game has its roots in PvP.
Cross-Realm Zones,Dungeon Finder and Raid Finder are what has saved this game, not LORE or NPCs. Wailing away in chat channels for groups is horrible. Not having enough people to run dungeons with sucks. Not being able to see high end content without devoting huge blocks of time to a game SUCKS...
Blizzard didn't make a mistake releasing WOTLK first. They will always find a way to invent a new bad guy.(##RESPBREAK##)2060##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##Please do not bypass the profanity filter by using *'s.

Without feeling the need to go into detail, rabican1, I wholly disagree.

Seconded. To say the game has NEVER had a sense of community is subjective at best.

Indeed...the post of someone who either never played when the community was the face of the game or did and just lacked the social graces to connect.
I ran large guild for years and I can testify to the fact that there was a great community out there at one time, and perhaps though widely dispersed still are great people playing, except you rarely have the means to find them anymore.
They fly solo below the radar these days.

Yet, folks like I agree with his statement about having a horrible community.
Why did I play EQII over WoW? The WoW community's horrid reputation. Not a game site online that didn't mention how ugly the WoW community is. Coming from older MuDs and MMOs, that isn't how the community was, nor conductive for social gameplay.
Those first few months playing WoW were god awful seeing the most selfish mememe gamers ever. I could get a heal box from a BF2142 soldier in a friendlier manner than in WoW...and not exaggerating one bit.

But this kind of thing is common in all aspects of life, not just WoW. Everyone's experiences are going to vary. Hell, I've had plenty of failed relationships with women in the past but that doesn't mean I feel there
NEVER
aren't any good women out in the world.
My time on Area 52-US during WotLK felt like being a bar on a friday night. Everyone's having a good time, hanging out with old friends, meeting new people, and sure, there may be some bad apples looking to cause trouble but the good very much outweighed the bad. I can't pretend to expect everyone felt the same way, even on the same server.

If you haven't played LoL for enough time to know its community, you don't know the definition of an *ugly community*.
How old are you? LoL didn't even exist then. Lineage II, not LoL.

I agree 100%
The community and all online communities are generally horrible with a decent people being the minority.
This happens when players are not held accountable for their actions.
WoW players are quick to blame the game for anything, I remember plenty of whining about BC and welfare epics, I remember plenty of whinging about Wrath being oh so bad, same with Cata, and what do you know.. MoP too. Yet most I know still play.

I feel the big miss for Blizzard was not making a movie based of the Arthas book. That movie at that time may have pushed the game above and beyond. Why? They already made a game for it...you know, Warcraft 3.

Why? They already made a game for it...you know, Warcraft 3.
Which is why WoW came to existence.
Which why the biggest subscriptions were in WotLK.
It's the theme that's popular.
If the movie came out in 2009, Blizzard could've had over 24mil subscribers.
And we wouldn't be dealing with only 8.3 million left (4 million less than WotLK).

Considering that pretty much all Video Game movies suck massively, I'd bet the opposite would happen; not only would they not draw in a new player base, it would turn off those people, thinking the game would be just like the movie.
