See, to me this whole thing looks like a macro-scale version of what we have right here on the forums: a bunch of drama that will blow over in a few days and periodically heat back up in the future, but nothing will ever really come of it.

The problem comes when the obligatory whack job (forum troll) can launch a nuclear weapon, then things get serious. It's a scary world we're going into.

Then people in China and South Korea start getting cancer from the radioactive fallout, not to mention the millions of lives that wind up being lost. War just isn't that simple in the atomic age my friend.

No kidding; it's not like NK has the stockpile that the other nuclear superpowers do. And while China may have moved some forces near the border...it's entirely possible they did so to have a better shot of shooting down any missiles launched from NK first; after all, any return fire has a chance of spilling past the Korean border onto their side.

know
how much their sweet setup will get wrecked if they get into a war, even if Kimmy himself doesn't.
If it doesn't blow over, then it really was just an inevitability wasn't it?

Thanks for all that Information Elhonna and Rank!
@Rank, thanks for those links, i'll get to read them when i have my time free. It would be interesting to know about North Korea.
@Elhonna, I didn't know North Korea was a poor nation, i guess that explains why they have poor military weapons. As rank explained.

South Korea isn't very poor. North is, though.

Kim is his last name. Not relevant to anything.I know, just using it collquially. Like calling Stalin Stalin, or Hitler Hitler.

It isn't poor at all actually.
Some people still mix north and south korea up, strangely enough, I wish they'd just have different names. Like Korea and That Weird Place No One Goes To.
In terms of distribution of wealth it kind of is. While one could say that about almost every country, in countries that have less money than others, it becomes more and more of an issue. It's all relative though, compared to America North Korea is very poor, compared to Zimbabwe they're very wealthy.

No, it isn't. Why are you trying to trivialize this situation? This is nothing like the wowhead forums, either.

No, it isn't. Why are you trying to trivialize this situation? This is nothing like the wowhead forums, either. It's up to them whether or not to attack. If they don't, then life goes on. If they do, then we fight, we kill them, and then life goes on.
It's sad, but really there's not a lot to argue about in my opinion.

Whether or not small and volatile nations should be allowed to have autonomous governments capable of gaining nukes? Whether or not preemptive conventional war is justified to prevent nuclear war? What the long term implications are for national debt to foreign nations? The current state of affairs in Russian politics?
Are you oblivious to how all of these topics relate to this current situation? I'd be hard pressed to name an issue, or name a person, that isn't in some way impacted by the current state of affairs in North Korea. I find it incredulous that someone could think that this issue isn't worth discussion. You, Skreeran, lose credibility, with me at least, when you are dismissive to what could end up being the lead up in events to the most deadly event in human existence. It strikes me as either being completely uninformed of what we are talking about in this thread, or having an alternative motive in the discussion. Either way, you are experiencing push back from the thread, and rightfully so. Go read a little bit about the history of this situation. Just read a little bit. Just a little. After reading just a little, I think one can gain enough knowledge to
not
have the opinion you have. Seriously, like 4 and half minutes of research.

If they do, then we fight, we kill them and potentially hundreds of thousands of innocent people, and then life goes on.
Fixed that for ya

I still maintain that there's no way China or Russia is going launch nuclear strike on the United States on behalf of North Korea. They would probably nuke NK themselves first. My concern is more that
we
might wind up having to drop an atomic bomb on them, which would result in tens to hundreds of thousands oc innocent people, who had no part in the actions of their government, being killed.

I doubt that a first response to US war with N Korea is nuclear war. I do think that some incidents on the Chinese/North Korea border, in the event of a US/NK war, could incidentally cause a China/US war, which would end up nuclear.
I mean, a NK/US war would be like lighting while buried under a pile of fireworks. Could the match just burn out and nothing happen? Sure. Could more happen? Certainly.
